Popular Post skalls Posted April 15, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 15, 2016 First off, aussie slang is both amazing and odd at the same time to me. It's English but like another language. Anyways, on to the review. Was a beautiful day after work and I wanted to unwind. Had some Knob Creek 100 single cask along with the Monte Petit Edmundo. Very good pairing if I do say so. The cigar was the star of the show though. This is a big cigar in a small package. It feels so much bigger than it really is. It condenses everything I've come to know and like about Montecristo. The wrapper is very dark and oily, almost decadently so. Pre-light it wreaked of a barn, which may sound bad but generally is a sign of good things to come. There is a slight amount of resistance to the draw, but it's a pretty easy going draw. Which is surprising given how dense it feels. Upon lighting I got blitzed by the cream and leather. No chocolate at the onset which was surprising, but that showed up about midway through the first third. The leather went away as the first third progressed, and what replaced that was an interesting spiciness. Felt like a mixture of cooking spices that included some white pepper and cinnamon. But by the end of the first third the spices had disappeared and the cigar was back to being dominated by cream and dark chocolate. The leather came back but was just barely there. I did have to do a slight touch up as one part of the wrapper didn't want to stay lit, which was the only complaint I had on the cigar's construction. The second third came and went and the final third continued with the flavors. The spices never showed up again but the leather picked up in intensity as did the dark chocolate. The cream flavor did ease down in intensity a touch. The cigar held on in 3/4" to 1" chunks and was a dark grey. The smoke output was great. The smoke itself was very viscous and oily. Cigar lasted 55 minutes. After I had my first one of these I immediately bought another box. These are decadent cigars. 92/100. I don't know if these cigars have the legs to improve over another year or two, but frankly this box isn't going to last much longer. 6
ThePolskiOgorki Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Nice review. I am a big fan of the Monte PE. It is one that I horde and I will never feel guilty about doing so. 1
JohnS Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Great review skalls! Does it have the legs? You bet it does. I had a sensational BUE Oct 08 Montecristo Petit Edmundo yesterday. I couldn't believe it when I read your review and you stated it took you 55 minutes to smoke! My one did so yesterday too. No wonder these are so popular amongst FoH members! 1
madandana Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Great review. Grain Belt? Grain Belt Premium is my go to beer. You'll have to get down to Buffalo MN for a smoke. I'm also well stock on the Monti PE. 1

I'm also well stock on the Monti PE. I think that was a Zorbaz cup. Don't mind Grain Belt but it isn't my goto beer. But as long as it isn't an IPA i'll happily drink whats in front of me lol. My uncle Dean lives in Buffalo. 1

skalls Posted April 16, 2016 Author Posted April 16, 2016 I typically go to the one in Detroit Lakes or Pelican Lake.
KJND Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Just about stopped at the Pelican Lake one today on the way home from the lake. I like that one more than the DL location. Also, nice review!

irratebass Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 2nd Monte PE review I have read today & now I want a box or two, they sound great. How do they compare to the 5? Nice job sir!
ElAbogado Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 But as long as it isn't an IPA i'll happily drink whats in front of me lol. Thank God... I was beginning to think I was the only adult male in the USA that didn't like IPAs... 1
skalls Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 A Coworker of mine was talking about this beer brewed in Minnesota about it being the best thing since sliced bread. My face couldn't hide how I was enjoying this 30 oz beer I just ordered. After just a mere sip of it.
jat Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I saw Monte PE and immediately had to read, great review and one of my favourites, agree with all your comments, always buy more than you think.

skalls Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 Like the PE much better myself. I like both as well, but the PE is better imo. 5 is a better value by a bit.
ChefBoyRG54 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I like both as well, but the PE is better imo. 5 is a better value by a bit.In fairness, it'd be rare for me to prefer a shorter smoke over larger, albeit the PE isn't the longest stick it still isn't in tiny cigar range for me. If I'm smoking I tend to make time for a good one instead of jamming one in just to say I did. Worst case I'll usually favor to smoke half a robo. But like all things cigar, all just personal preference Great review man
