jmg Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I got married last May and recently started thinking about getting a box of cigars from May 15 to smoke every year on or near my anniversary. I am looking for suggestions. Haven't smoked any cuban DCs yet but I think that's the size I want to go for. Normally, I smoke smaller RG but for an anniversary cigar, I want a bigger smoke to help me reflect on the past year. I've smoked NC churchills on occasion and like the time that I need to commit to it, which is why I want to go for a cuban DC. Plus, almost no matter where I end up living, May should always bring ideal smoking weather. To provide some info on my preferences, for flavor, I prefer cream, coffee, bread and/or earthy notes. I honestly don't have a flavor preference because I try to appreciate most flavors that a cigar offers. For strength, medium to med-full would be prefered, but I am not averse to mild-med or full. Regular production only, as I do not like to hunt for HTF boxes. Also would prefer cigars in a cab as opposed to DBs. 25 or 50 ct. So to summarize, along with asking for suggestions, anybody know of any box codes from May 15 that are smoking well and have great aging potential along the preferences I stated above? Eventually, when I have a kid(s), I'll probably seek out another box(es) for the kid(s)'s b-day as well. Depending on the month of birth, I may change the size I am looking for. Thanks all in advance.
Rye Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Sounds like Lusitania's or Punch DC to me! Best of luck on your search and happy anniversary!
PapaDisco Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Trying to find both a cab and a specific month/year is practically the definition of HTF! Since this is going to be a 25 year thing, you'll want a cigar with legs. The Partagas Lusitanias and the HdM DC's have popped up here in 50 cigar cabs over the last year. Also in 25ct dress boxes. I think you'd like both flavor profiles over the years to come. Punch Double Corona is my personal favorite and I think Rob has those in stock in dress boxes. I've had no luck scoring a cab. If only the Sir Winstons would come back, that would be a real keeper for this sort of thing, but those are so scarce that just finding a box, let alone finding a good one of the month and date you seek is a formidable task. Maybe Romeo & Julieta No. 2? The 2015's are spectacular, they taste to me like they will age well (particularly if you shrink wrap them or ziplock them they should go 25 years) and their greater supply means that you have a fighting chance of getting one from May 2015.
oliverdst Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Any big cigar that takes a lot of time to smoke. In 25 or 50 years you will need it. 1
jackupster Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 How about a 50 cab of Saint Luis Rey Double Corona's. That will cover most of a lifetime and they are really good!
PapaDisco Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 How about a 50 cab of Saint Luis Rey Double Corona's. That will cover most of a lifetime and they are really good! Sure, but think how hard those would be to find. And from a specific date as well.
Smallclub Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 How about a 50 cab of Saint Luis Rey Double Corona's. That will cover most of a lifetime and they are really good! no one even knows if some SLR DC were rolled in 2015… @OP: you can't go wrong with a box of Lusitania, Punch DC, VR Don Alejandro, RA Gigantes. I'd also suggest a box of RyJ churchills in tubos…
cigaraholic Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 For something that's going to improve over the next 20 years I'd say....Esplendido's. It's the only cigar I've used the anniversary excuse to by a box of. Usually takes a little something extra to get me over the $$$$$ pain of Cohiba..... But if your looking for a cigar that you will be excited to try in a couple of decades, that's the one I'd choose.
brschoppe Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I see what up did there with the Lusitanias. Didn't the ship the cigar is named for sink in May of '15...1915? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
earthson Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Sir Winnies or RA Gigantes. If you're looking for something with good aging potential, go for something with an oily appearance.

Slowly starting to consider to forego looking for a specific box code. Any big cigar that takes a lot of time to smoke. In 25 or 50 years you will need it. lol... every negative thing that I've heard about married life and wives has been proven to me during my first year of marriage. yet I still trudge along. at least she doesn't mind my smoking cigars.... as of now Thanks for the suggestions gents. I was trying to see if there are any May 15 boxes of DCs that are smoking well right now AND have aging potential but maybe I was trying to be too specific. Still open to suggestions though.

Just kidding, bro. I am a happy person being married. Of course there is the downside. On the balance more ups than downs.

First year is the hardest.Just don't give up. Been married 16.5 years, but started dating her 25 years ago.
zeedubbya Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 ESO MAY15 Partagas Lusitanias 50 CAB. Have had one from this Cab and they are nice
zeedubbya Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Did anyone mention on 24:24 right now are May15 boxes of Montecristo 2? I couldn't think of a better option than a box of these. Even though Rob doesn't cherry pick asking him to assure you get May15 box would be ok I think?
