The Swiss-American love of Cuban cigars

"Which may go a little way toward explaining why some two-thirds of the total value of cigars imported into Switzerland come from Cuba. (It’s about one-third when measured by volume, which shows how pricey those Cuban smokes tend to be.)"

Disagree with this. How could Cuban sticks sell for LESS than Non Cubans and cost twice as much wholesale?no.gif

Do the math......looking.gif

"Since 1988, the value of Cuban cigars imported into Switzerland has more than doubled."

What does this mean? That the 1988 Cuban cigars in Switzerland have more than doubled in value?teacher.gif

That the cost of Cuban cigars since 1988 has more than doubled?

That Cuban cigars are worth more if they come from Swiss vendors?hungry.gif

That Swiss vendors are selling more than twice as many Cuban cigars than in 1988 (28 years)?whisper.gif

"Americans’ insatiable taste for Cuban cigars accounts for at least one of every ten cigars the Cubans export each year, according to reports in the Cigar Aficionado magazine. In top cigar shops in Swiss and other European cities, the percentage appears to run higher"idea.gif

And in one paragraph, the writer confuses things even more,by stating the US buys 10 % of the total cigar exports of Cuba, then that the US accounts for 10% or more of the allotments in European cities.

Rob,how many damn cigars are you selling?whip.gif

Lets face it, the majority of Americans who are ordering Cuban boxes online are using at least one of the many vendors based in Switzerland.

I use our host almost exclusively but I have used one online vendor based in Switzerland. The prices from this Swiss vendor are significantly higher than other online vendors based elsewhere so I've only ordered from that vendor for a box that I could find nowhere else. I have noticed that one of the other vendors I've used (which is based in Hong Kong) ships the cigars from Switzerland or Austria.
