RWhiz Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 When you find a good cigar, are you more prone to stock up on that particular stick, or diversify as to keep a variety of good smokes in your humidores? I struggle sometimes with this, all of us have a limited storage capacity, and I for one try to keep a variety of sizes and marcas on hand for when that craving sets in. However, that limits me when a cigar line gets really good from "stocking up". Just wondering what everyone here thinks. Just buying another cooler isn't always the answer other limitations, such as space and funds play a roll in this equation as well.
NSXCIGAR Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I like to keep my stock diverse but I do try to stock up on good production when it comes around. I would have to say if storage space is a consideration, I'm going to stock up on good production over diversity. 2
Turbo56 Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 With coolers being as cheap as they are and really good at maintaining temperature and humidity. A small investment of less than 100us can get you a huge cooler and beads to store 1000s of cigars! 1

A small investment of less than 100us can get you a huge cooler and beads to store 1000s of cigars! While I agree, I end up splitting time between two homes, one in Tahoe which isn't very big so rather than money, putting several 40 qt. coolers isn't really an option. I already have one cooler at capacity currently there! My other home, while somewhat larger, I'm not in as much so maintenanceing the beads, and temperature control of the house isn't a given.
Fugu Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Both! If you always only stock up on what's good to great at a particular moment, this automatically leads to a nice diversification over the years, given the temporal variation in quality of production for different marcas, fabricas and vitolas. At the beginning, you might add singles if you need more 'variety'. That's what I am practising, in cigars as in wine.
Popular Post ksblazer Posted March 19, 2016 Popular Post Posted March 19, 2016 When I first got started I wanted to diversfy to find out what my preferenses were. Now that I have done that , Im stocking up on what I enjoy most. 9
terrantheman Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I've been smoking long enough that I'm pretty in tune with what I like (a lot ?). So if there is a particular marca and production is hot I will NOT pass up getting some to last.
mgravito Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Both as well. I stock up on some of my regular production favorite rubostos (RASS, Epi2) that I smoke frequently. Other than those there I like too many different cigars to focus my funds in one place. 1
JoeyW Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 i like stocking some favorite when there is some nice batch. times to times i grab a few new stock to try and when i find something new i like , i stock them up lol it always end to the same probleme : not enough space . i been thinking about building a walk in for a while now
Lotusguy Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 My collection is more wide than deep. However, I usually have at least one full box of whatever I am smoking left and order another one once the opened box is at 10 sticks or below.
ChefBoyRG54 Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I'm heavily stocked on one cigar, the rest I have 50 or less of many different options. Love diversity and don't like to smoke the same cigar twice in any reasonable amount of time. So many choices:)
fabes Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I appreciate a variety, but am leaning more toward stocking up personal favorites. I'm learning what I don't enjoy and making space for what I do enjoy.
Lamar Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Which one cigar are you heavily stocked on? I'm heavily stocked on one cigar, the rest I have 50 or less of many different options. Love diversity and don't like to smoke the same cigar twice in any reasonable amount of time. So many choices:)

Smoker Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 When I first got started I wanted to diversfy to find out what my preferenses were. Now that I have done that , Im stocking up on what I enjoy most. This most reflects how I am. I do like to try things I haven't tried before. But let's say I was only allowed to buy 1 more box of cigars, or even 10 more boxes for that matter, I would definitely get 10 boxes of my favourite 1 or 2 cigars. You never know when they're going to discontinue something, or when there will be a long period of poor production. 2
cosmoker Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I started with diversity. I would buy samplers, a box of a marca that I did not have but wanted to try. But as time and my taste were being honed I began to stock what I liked. Now I buy 1 box of what I like and 1 box of something different. That way I am deep with my favorites and get to sprinkle that with new and different.
Ralphanator Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 When I m buying I like to buy 2x25 or a cab one to smoke if they are ready and one to keep for extra aging! I don't smoke very much so a box or cab will last me a very long time. If a box is really good and a good price i'll get 4-6 boxes back to back. when one order of two comes in ill place another order for two! 1
Orator Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Like a few of the others, I am a mixture of both habits/practices. Typically my purchase habits lean towards variety, but if something I really enjoy is limited or a smoke that I partake in a few times a month or more, I will stock up. fkim119 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 I'm always adventurous to try something new even with a marca that hasn't fared well with me. When I do find something I enjoy, I always load up on it especially for a particularly good production. I can always pawn off the stuff I don't like to my buddies ...
