Wow. Just noticed Sterling Heights under your avatar. I'm originally from Warren, though haven't lived there since the late 90s. How is ole Sterile Whites? That's the city I first got drunk in!

Can't complain. Grew up in Warren myself:)

Nobody has mentioned Partagas de Luxe tubos

Decent smoke for easy money if you like Partagas. ~ $135 USD

Punch and hdm coronations has been great at times, poor at times - always pay way too much as I buy singles from local b&m on impulse.

Does your local b&m allow inspection of the cigars before purchase?

Mine do but they're pricey at about 10USD/pop.

Most might not - exchanged one once - prices around ten usd a piece here in Denmark as well, bolivar a little more

I see a lot of Punch Coronations... anyone try the Royal Coronations?

Love the Bolivar Tubos 2,3,1 in that order. The prices on the #1's you offered a couple weeks ago was the best price I had seen in a while and I unfortunately received a sold out email from Di thumbsdwn.gif

tubos 3 best price 110-115

tubos 2 best price 149, but have not been around as plentifully lately.

I agree.

I don't smoke too many tubos myself, but they make great gifts for business.

I purchased a bunch of used cigar boxes, NCs, and gift some cigars in the boxes in a freezer ziploc bag with a Boveda.

These are very much appreciated.

I got a box of Bolivar #2 from an off FOH site and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had 3 year of age on them.

But I have to say that generally I buy these as gifts and a few spare if I am going someplace where I might smoke a cigar and don't feel like carrying much with me.

I don't buy a lot of tubos so this is a bit off topic. On a whim I grabbed 3 Partagas D4 tubos with an order placed 12/10. Smoked two on a ski trip last week and will mark both down as terrific. I've done a bit of aging in tubes over the years and my results have been very good so far.

At a small train station in Italy headed for Genoa saw a newspaper stand

with a humidor at the sales clerk area with a bunch of different singles and

packs of 3 / 5 packs. Opted for some Cohiba Siglo II's in tubo fashion.

Grabbed a hand full and found a table and a coffee outside. Could not believe

how good this little smoke was. These were the best smokes of my trip.

Even going to Le Flamm in Nice or the tabac shop in Monaco nothing beat

these little guys. I'm heading back to that same train station and I

surely going to see If I can get / find that little newspaper stand.

To this day I always keep an eye out for Sig. II's in tubo, I'll buy them in a heart

beat!

Can someone explain the point of tubos to me?

Should there be any difference in the same cigar  tube vs box?

WHY do they sell the same cigar in tubes/boxes?

Tubos allow one to carry a cigar with out worrying about damage. Should be the same cigar as non tubed version. There are a few cigars that are only available in tubes, Monte Tubos come to mind. One can effectively limit the cigar's exposure to air and effect the aging process compared to other storage conditions by leaving a tubed cigar in your humidor.

This, and the fact that in a recent past very few people (ie the typical buyer of cheaper habanos like RyJ No.2 or Punch Petit Coronation, etc.) had an humidor.

Agreed. Yes, and to add further to Smallclub's comment, they appeal to the casual cigar smoker, perhaps someone who wants to grab something duty free as a single when travelling for example. For us who are cigar enthusiasts, at least for me, tubos offer a sentimental memory of the excitement and learning curve cigars offered when we started this wonderful and noble hobby (I still remember the excitement of getting Punch Coronation tubos years ago!).

Inexpensive is relative to the individual....

I like the R&J #2. It was one of my first CC's. I got the twang of a Cuban and have never looked back.

I have to agree with the R&J #2. Great little cigar

Punch punch AT have been great. 10ct box around $60-70USD I think I paid for a 2013 box.

I enjoy them aging them in the cedar sleeves. I particularly love the fact that you can stash them and the remain free of damage until the end of time. Great for traveling.

One more advantage to tubos: a round cigar. I very much prefer Boli RC tubos to the dress box, which always has a box press to it!

Great point, why do the carefully roll a perfect cigar then stuff it in a box and deform it?

ill second or third or whatever the Punch Coronation, silver tube!
