NapaNolan Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Now that I've been smoking cigars for 11 years I find myself almost exclusively interested in lanceros, lonsdales and related sizes. I wouldn't refuse a gift or turn down someone wanting to share but for my money I've become very picky. I know everyone has a preference, but does that preference affect your buying habits that strongly? 1
luv2fly Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I would say the same here. That would be my preference. Then again, I am an equal opportunity smoker. Keep a selection of larger RG. By the way, the title made me spit my tea out a bit.. 1
UnofficialGhost Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I prefer sub-50 RG Corona, Corona Gorda, Corona Extra, Petite Corona, Lonsdale, Pantella, etc. Just feels more comfortable to me. That doesnt mean that I don't have some larger RG in my humidor, just that I lean heavily towards the skinnier sticks. 4
suggs Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Another sub-50 here. Corona Gorda's are my favorite vitola and I generally stick between 42-48. I do like the occasional long and skinny...but I've had my share of 38s and below that were just too bothersome. 54 would be about the highest I'd consider going, but anything above 50 starts getting uncomfortable.
topdiesel Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I have a serious preference for 40-49 ring size. However, I don't limit my purchases to that range as tastes change. There are a lot of fantastic cigars that don't fit my preferred size. I don't want to miss out.
JohnS Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 My preference is 46 ring gauge and under most of the time. Another thing I factor is the time needed to smoke the cigar and the occasion. 1
UnofficialGhost Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Another thing I factor is the time needed to smoke the cigar and the occasion. This. Since my son was born 2 years ago I have found that time has been the biggest factor. It was only in seeking out good 1 and 1/2 hour smokes that I found 42-46 RG just felt right.
Popular Post Warren Posted January 4, 2016 Popular Post Posted January 4, 2016 Let me just ask my wife and I'll get back to you. 6
aushy Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I don't have a size preference when buying, however I do like to make sure I have a good range of sizes in my humidor. I need to have smaller sizes available for when I don't have much time, and then I like to enjoy larger cigars when I have more time to smoke.
archosaur Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Vast majority of my stash is 38-46. The main exception being various pyramid shapes, I dig those. Wish they made more of the forum vitola - 46 x 5.3", a petit pyramid. Always have a few robustos lying around. I love the lowly, disappearing corona and the elegant laguito #2.
polarbear Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I'll smoke any size I prefer CGs but I do find that size isn't as prevalent as it once was I also smoke a lot of NCs so I find that sticking to a cigar below 50rg isn't always an option if i'm keen to try a new release Anything over 60rg is my tap out point. I've smoked larger RGs than that but found I didn't enjoy the experience and I'm yet to find a blend in a 60+rg that isn't just as good (if not better in a smaller size)
LGC Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Very... After the initial release of the Siglo VI, I've never bought anything larger than a 50rg. I don't like the way fat cigars smoke. I don't like having to draw harder on cigars to keep them lit, and looser fills are frustrating on fat cigars. I'll smoke anything, I just choose not to purchase them. I also like the higher ratio of wrapper in certain cigars.
PapaDisco Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I like the ratio of the corona gorda/petite corona/churchill formats, so those are my three favorites. I happily venture into double corona land and thankfully get enough opportunities each month to burn a few of those. Behind that would be the pyramids, but when the flavors are awesomely good I find myself loading up on selections (like the Punch Sabrosos). Haven't smoked many robusto lately, and Siglo VI territory is about the biggest, fattest I'll go. The Cohiba Grande Gordo Todo El Mundo Super Supremo Robusto I smoked last month damn near choked me before kicking my ass!
busdriver Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I have a range in my humi but my favorite size is a lonsdale. Also if I smoke a >50 RG after a sub 50 I really notice that the larger RGs are not as comfortable to smoke. The upside is they stay lit longer between puffs and produce tons of smoke.
skalls Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Weather dictates what I have to an extent. I don't really like sitting in the sun when its really humid and sweat like a pig and to have a double corona. Nor do i want one that size when its 20 below out. Corona, Corona Gorda, Robusto and Petit Coronas are all great sizes. Double Robusto and Churchill/DC are nice when I have the time
NSXCIGAR Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I have a hard time with a 50+ RG. Just doesn't suit me physically and it tends to get uncomfortable in the last third. I will definitely shy away from large RG cigars. I would have to say if I had to pick one size to smoke forever it would be Laguito #2. It just suits me best, but anything 38-40 RG x 140-160mm range is right in my wheelhouse. The only size larger than 42 I really, really like is one that's gone extinct: the Franciscos 44 x 143 (Boli CE). I prefer it to a Grand Corona every time. That being said, I have no problems with the 42 RG lineup and very much enjoy everything from minutos to lonsdales. Robustos are pushing it for me and I definitely prefer a Hermosos No. 4 (48 x 127) to the Robusto.
squizz Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I prefer sub-50 RG Corona, Corona Gorda, Corona Extra, Petite Corona, Lonsdale, Pantella, etc. Just feels more comfortable to me. That doesnt mean that I don't have some larger RG in my humidor, just that I lean heavily towards the skinnier sticks. I agree!!
LeafLover Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 I'm all over the map. I find above 46rg to be better constructed but prefer below 46rg.
Stogieninja Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 When it come to sizes, my favorite is a corona gorda, but it's more about what I don't like: over 54rg, under 38, longer than 7", box pressed, oval shaped, figurados... I tend to avoid all of those things if possible with rare exceptions.
Fugu Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Very... ... and looser fills are frustrating on fat cigars. This! Chances are certainly much higher to meet with that in a fat cigar. It's just too annoying. I am fine up to about 52 rg, but from there on the mouthfeel simply becomes unpleasant. Different therefore with figurados, nothing against a well-rolled Rodolfo on occasion.... Preferred rg under and including 47 (Churchill being one of my go to formats).
danny Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Definitely not a fan of larger ring-gauges. More of a lancero, corona gorda, lonsdale kind of guy. Can't say I don't enjoy a nice double-corona when time is not of the essence.
Boosted Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 I buy more corona gorda and double Coronas than anything, but my favorite sizes are lonsdales, dalias, and corona grandes.
puro Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Due to time restraints most of the time I go a robusto or toro as I also like these bigger gauges generally speaking 48-52 . when I'm not so time poor go for a belicoso /torpedo as there longer smokes but still with larger gauges.
Firebender Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 I think I like petit corona or corona junior sizes the most and I have a lot of them, but I always find myself reaching for robustos when I am about to smoke. Weird but true.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
eswary Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Anything at or under 52. Most of my cigars are the corona size at around 46. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
