Just a short review on a HQ Oct '14 box.

I'm halfway through this box now and they really are very, very good! Fantastic room aroma, great tang on the draw and all the expected nutty and floral flavours on the palette, straight on medium body.Very noticeable transitions through the cigar and there's a surprisingly long, paprika spice finish, more prevalent in the second third, beyond which it starts to mellow out again.Heavy on the dark chocolate in the final third. This was a real finger burner!

I do think that they've got a few legs to peak in around another 18 months or so but quite honestly they're so good now that I can't see the point in waiting to find out.Another box on the way though so maybe I'll lay five of these away just to see.

A 91 I reckon.

These are great cigars in my experience. Very consistent. Laid back, easy to smoke. Have always been one of my favorites. Thanks for the review.

Funny this came up as I just had one from a '14 box (didn't look at the code). I hadn't had one for almost a year as it was not good. This time... it was terrible. Worse than a year ago. Pitched it not even half way through. Harsh and strong. I have a box and a half and will bury them for at least a year before I try again.

Glad your's are better! :)

Tom Mac gave me a heads up on a stunner CX he was smoking a few weeks back.

have revisited a few in that time from 14. He was right.

Had a ERDM CS the other day from the FOH 2012 HQ sampler pack. I was not expecting much, but it was one of the best cigars I had in awhile. I kept passing it over reaching for something else instead. I will definitely be purchasing a few HQ or PSP boxes next time they come up in the 24:24.

Have a 2010 box that have been utterly flavorless duds. I may never make it through the box as they are that bad. This was my first box of these and my last. Will not shell out another 200 dollars when there are so many better marcas to choose in that price point. My favorite RASS are even cheaper and never disappoint. Guess you all got lucky or they improved the blend.

Seemingly stronger and more complex than they have been in a while...

Most definitely! Still not a cigar that I'd ever buy blind, mind you.Only from the HQ/PSP/24/24 selections here.

Always liked these. Have had a fair amount but sadly there are none in the humi now. Will have to change that come next year. Storage capacity is quickly becoming an issue, which means more storage is needed. Man am I gonna get it from "management"lmao.gif

Always had good results with ERDM CS. Can't say I've ever had a bad one out of maybe 25 over 19 years. Unfortunately, the profile is just not my cup of tea. The flavors are just too subtle for me. I can appreciate it, but most of the time I just don't like to work that hard for flavors that aren't my favorite.

That's why I've always hesitated recommending the cigar to beginners. It's mild, to be sure, but the subtlety of the flavors is really lost on an inexperienced smoker. There's a lot going on in a properly aged CS and you need to really focus to get it.

That being said, if the conditions are right and I'm in the mood, I'll happily smoke one. But for me personally there are just better options for me to spend my coin on.

the cx i got was quite bad as well. OCT 14 HQ (didnt look at box code either ) but it was pitched after half way, will revisit in about a month from now.

I can't remember the boxcode but I ordered a box for a friend off of the most recent 24:24 and he gave me one out of the box. Even though you shouldn't judge a cigar right when it gets to you, I still didn't think it was very good at all. Tasted like the leaves had been steeped in black soil/dirt, very strongly so. I hope the rest of the box isn't like this one so he can see how good a box of Cubans can be. Although production has been better across the board for most marcas, I'm starting to tire of the inconsistency that is still very evident amongst Cuban cigars. But I love cigars and out of all the cigars in the world, Cubans are still my favorite so I just have to suck it up and take the good with the bad.

To my mind at least, the general consistency has vastly improved over say,the last couple of years or so.But that's all subjective,of course, based only on my own purchases.Plus I'm very low down on the ladder of knowledge amongst most of the members here,I'd be interested to hear what some of them would bring to that debate.

I recently got a 14 box and smoked one ROTT. It was fantastic. Mild but rich. Ample sweetness. Subtle but not dull. Looking forward to the rest of the box.

Nice review. I haven't had one of these in years, however, they were always a great cigar for a nice change of pace (I'm partial to Partagas and Bolivar). I do remember them to be on the mild side of medium, and they always had a great "honey" undertone....damn i could taste it now.

Thanks for bringing back great memories, and for helping me in lightening up my wallet, lol.

haha yeah this place will do that to you, huh! :-) Smoking another one of them now, well into the second layer of the box and I haven't had one yet that's deviated from that first description,it's a beautiful smoke! Can't keep myself from reaching for them! Go for it the next time they show up on the 24:24! Your wallet might not thank you but all your senses certainly will!
