kuma Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 What happened. Just finishing reading a story in local newspaper about how Fosters is no longer made in Oz but in the states. Man has lawsuit about the beer claiming to be bottled / made in Oz but is not true. When did this change take place.
Fosgate Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Frivolous lawsuit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foster%27s_Lager Who cares where it's brewed so long as it is still tasty and they keep making great commercials.
El Presidente Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I can't remember the last time I saw Fosters in Oz. Back in the 80's I think it was one of our number 1 selling beers. 1
Duxnutz Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 The US stuff was made in Canada as far as what I saw on the can a few yrs ago. Still catpiss tho. 3
Bill Hayes Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I last saw Fosters in Australia on tap at Young & Jackson's pub opposite Flinder's Street Station in Melbourne. I have also seen it in my local bottle shop that has a lot of imported beers. It was well advertised in the UK and disappeared here quite a while ago. Carlton Draught and Victoria Bitter are the tap beers that dominate in Melbourne but are losing ground to craft beers. Crown Lager is now the premium beer in the range and Foster's the export. But I guess due to its success overseas it makes sense that it's brewed overseas, closer to the market to cut down on shipping costs I guess. I think about 10 or so years ago Lion Nathan tried to take over a lot of Victorian pubs and replace Carlton Draught with Tooheys. Victorian drinkers were really p!ssed off, probably due to the NSW v VIC rivalry, so publicans would have a hidden keg of Carlton Draught even though they were bought out by the rival. Hence, Carlton Draught became even more popular. An example of a business decision going horribly wrong. I guess Foster's no longer had a place in the stable here in Aus. It's a slightly sweeter style compared to Carlton, VB and Melbourne Bitter. And less refined than Crown. I think it no longer suited the average drinker's palate.
Kurt Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I always found it a strange product..marketed in the US as Australian beer but every trip I had down under it was no where to be found.. my sentiments are the same as Duxnuts. On the subject of Australian beers, VB is is the bees knees.
SCgarman Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 While on the subject of beer, Becks which is supposed to be "German" is brewed by A.B. in St.Louis, MO for the U.S. market. But in stores, it is placed in with other "real" German beers and sold at a premium price. Needless to say I will never buy Becks sold in the US ever again. Blasphemy. Fosters beer is simply marketed as "Australian" just like the Outback Steakhouse. All just marketing ploys, nothing more. 1
MIKA27 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Fosters is BIG in Asia, I haven't seen it anywhere here in Oz nor do I quite frankly want to drink it... 2
polarbear Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Fosters are now offering RTDs that are Fosters beers mixed with Rum I've not tried one, but I do not see how putting a no name rum in a sub standard aussie beer could improve it... 1
westg Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Fosters is BIG in Asia, I haven't seen it anywhere here in Oz nor do I quite frankly want to drink it... Not even beer as I know the definition ..yucky stuff 1
Ribeye Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 What is the best selling beer in Australia? Here is a map of best selling beer by state for the U.S. http://priceonomics.com/the-united-states-of-beer/?utm_source=MicCheck+list+A&utm_campaign=6ebdfc2336-July_14_20157_13_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_ad630cb806-6ebdfc2336-285507317
aushy Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 We have some great beers in Australia, it's a shame that other countries associate us with this "Foster's" stuff. Surprisingly enough I have never seen it on tap at any pub/bar/club nor have I tried it in Austraila. I did have the misfortune of trying it in London when apparently all the other 8 beers on tap were sold out.. 1
Overproof Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Haven't seen a fosters longneck since 98. It was either VB, XXXX bitters or the fosters larger in the 750ml they just disappeared over the years to come, kinda like the 'powers bitter' brewed by xxxx in Brisbane, terrible ****. Funnily enough I seen them in the tins here at my local bws. Brings back some pretty boozy summers
potpest Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Couldn't bring myself to drink fosters anymore. Used to drink it at uni due to it being cheap and not knowing any better. Give me a good strong IPA or a milk stout nowadays, much prefer my beer to have some flavour.
