Randolph Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Being someone who enjoys the more substantial flavoured cigar can anyone share any suggestions as to my next discovery? I'm thinking about what I should add to my collection for smoking over the Christmas holidays. Does anyone have any suggestion for a fuller flavour piramides - I'm thinking of Cohiba Piramides Extra or Diplomatios No.2. I have Monte 2's which I enjoy now and again. I also have some Bolivar BBS but I found the last one I smoked very overbearing. Looking for a good pre-dinner late afternoon smoke. Randy
NSXCIGAR Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I'd shy away from the Dip 2 as far as "fullness" goes and probably steer you to an Upmann 2 (which have recently been smoking fabulously, particularly LUB box codes) or the Party P2 (although not a favorite of mine). Not sure how the SCDLH La Punta is smoking recently (the El Principe is smoking well) but that's also an option. Haven't had one in a many years but some have noted there's a distinct blend difference between the La Fuerza and the La Punta, the La Fuerza perhaps being a bit richer. The RyJ Belicosos seem to be rocking right now (have some coming myself) but not sure if that's really going to meet your "full flavored" desires the same way a BBF would. But you noted the BBF could be a bit intense so perhaps the RyJ Beli may be perfect.
davidl Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Partagas P2 is another very full flavored pyramid. Although, if the BBF was too intense , the P2 will also be too intense . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JohnS Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 If Ramon Allones had a piramides/beliosco vitola you'd probably find what you are looking for. Try a Vegas Robaina Unicos (while you can find them!).
PigFish Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Many seasoned smokers will relate the nature (robust or otherwise) to a vitola as well as, or other than a brand. It really depends on your experience and your beliefs. Why then ask for figured cigars when perhaps a 42 ring cigar may fit the bill? My suggestion when looking for fuller cigars is to look at cigars in the thinner to medium ring range. Many of us find smaller ring cigar more flavor intense and this would limit your selection of piramides and have you looking elsewhere. My 2cts. Cheers! -Piggy 1
PapaDisco Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I'd concur with NSX's Partigas P2 suggestion, those have been smoking well for me lately (2014 vintage). Also the Punch Sabrosos from 2011 that FOH has on offer are just brilliant right now and very full flavored. Slightly less full, but flavorful and a bit sweet and salty are the Sancho Panza Belicoso's from FOH and they're from 2012.
Randolph Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 Good recommendation PapaDisco. I had a Punch Sabrosos 2 weeks ago, bought as a single in a cigar shop in Perth and it was an absolute festival for the taste buds. PigFish I'll do a bit of sniffing around on the smaller gauage cigars.
tjohn7 Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Can't go wrong with VR Unicos. SCdlH La Punta is also a go-to. Two of the best marcas out there, in my opinion. 1
CaptainQuintero Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 You'll not get a more robust or full flavoured Cuban than a Bolivar gold medal imo 1
NSXCIGAR Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 If Ramon Allones had a piramides/beliosco vitola you'd probably find what you are looking for. Yeah, that'd be what I'm looking for too! Hard to believe RA has never had a figurado in regular production post-revolution. 1
Randolph Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 Ok so far I've managed to order a box of Cohiba Siglo II....look forward to a few adventures with them. Still on the look out for something substantial.
Randolph Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 My hand is hovering over the Vegas Robiena Unicos...but button. I think I'll head out for a run first.
foursite12 Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 If somebody says "rich, full but not harsh" to me, my mind flashes "8-9-8".

Try a Vegas Robaina Unicos (while you can find them!). Thank you John for the recommendation of the Unicos. I bought a couple of singles - had never smoked a Vegas before so wanted to take things a little slowly with the old girl before thinking of a box - afterall my memories of visiting Vegas do not resonate with the flavours I desire. Anyway - sitting here into the early first 1/3 - and I have to say - what an absolute pleasure she is! I can't wait to see how this journey goes! A great recommendation - thank you 1
Randolph Posted November 24, 2015 Author Posted November 24, 2015 Was my luck in on our first acquaintance? I hope not! What a cigar! A festival of flavour - cream, chocolate, dark cherry, cedar. Produced an abundance of thick smoke that coated the palate puff after puff - was a pleasure to smoke! First Vegas for me and I will already make the decision to buy a couple of boxes - one for now (hoping she'll smoke well young) and a box to lay down. Tickled my fancy far more than my normal go to Piramides (Monte 2). Even my wife commended on the beautiful aroma - an aroma that is only normally appreciated when I smoke a Cohiba or a Punch DC. What a great forum this is! Thanks Randy

It's been awhile since I've had a VR cigar (Famosos from memory) but I certainly did note and enjoy the chocolate flavours. I'm hoping some quality stock of Vegas Robaina comes up on 24:24 in the next few months as I hope to get a box or two myself in light of the potential scaling back of this marca... http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=124229
