Have a look at the box of D4's.

There is a problem which is not immediately recognisable. Who can pick it? thumbsup.gif

Double caps instead of triple? Might just be my pic . . . huh.png

Box itself shows impact in front opposite second cigar from left. As noted earlier, that same cigar looks dinged up as well, possibly including a tear in the wrapper about halfway up.

First cigar is crammed in between top and bottom rows. No spacer in bottom row?

Cigar beetle on 6th cigar from the left?

Bingo! clap.gif

You see it from time to time. Roughly 1-2 boxes every few thousand boxes.

the solitary hole in a sigle cigar. Damage has been done in the period between the factory and the Habanos freezing chamber.

Considering how warm the weather is down there, it is amazing there are not more beetle holes. Many that have gone to Cuba have said lots of boxes in the LCdH's are rife with beetles. Guess you need to inspect a box before handing over the cash.

Indeed, well spotted! And thanks Rob for putting this up, it serves as a great education for us all. We may presume that a beetle problem means many breakout holes, but in this case it's just one! (Yet, it still means the whole box is affected.)

So what happens to the box?

If the second row were checked as well would the amount of affected boxes double?

I've had cigars with holes like that before & smoked them

The box is separated and placed in a deep freezer for a week as a precaution. it was a nice box so I will smoke through them over the next year.

i thought the splash of brown paint on the bottom left hand corner indicated the reason for the darker oily consistent maduro sheen.

Makes me wonder if I'm crazy not freezing...

If you want to protect your expensive investment.....you should !!!! I freeze all my incoming boxes regardless of what they do in Havana.
