prettybigkat Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I have a box of partagas Mille Fleurs, I'm definitely a beginner, What should I consider for my next purchase? What is the classic Cuban box? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

shlomo Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 How about trying 15-20 "beginner" singles first? How is anybody supposed to know what your preference may be? 4
prettybigkat Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 Probably mild-medium smaller cigars. Would want the iconic Cuban that fits that profile. Also buying samplers makes me nervous, I like to have the whole box so I can inspect. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
PointFivePast Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 My first box was Bolivar Petite Coronas. Slightly stronger than some which was nice coming from NC cigars. Lovely flavor profile, bit of that cream and spice with a touch of twang giving you a nice Cuban experience. Inexpensive too, so I didn't feel like I was dropping too much money. With my limited experience I would recommend them as a good beginner box since it worked well for me. Not sure if I would say they are a "classic" Cuban box but I felt very satisfied with them. 1
raymond5737 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Try a sampler be for you commit to a single box. Now comes the hard part. Let them a climate in your humidor, 3-06 months at least. The longer you wait the better they will taste. Once the wait is over you have 8-10 different cigars to rate vs 1 box of the same cigar.

bugman78629 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 A GLASS-TOP BOX OF COHIBA'S....... *joking of course.
kooser1574 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Fonseca #1 is a good starter. Not strong but still enough flavor for a good solid smoke. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
egoo33 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 are you new to the hobby or just new to cubans? if you are used to smoking pepper bombs something lighter may dissuade from cubans. i would go with what broke me into habanos, bolivar pcs, they have been consistent and deliver everything. if you don't like them you won't have invested too much money and i am sure you'd be able to find a few people to take them off your hands 2
NCPANTHERZFAN Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Bolivar Belicoso Finos. My first box purchase and still in my top 10. 2

jp1979 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 i agree with erics thought process on this if coming from Nica sticks on the other side, HUP PC fit the bill nicely too. 1
JohnS Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 What is the classic Cuban box? Monte 4 This sums it up for me!
NSXCIGAR Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 ...Also buying samplers makes me nervous, I like to have the whole box so I can inspect. If you don't mind me asking, why would buying singles/samplers make you nervous? And what about a whole box do you feel needs inspecting? FYI, anything (singles & boxes) purchased from our host is inspected as well or better than any other vendor in the world would or could. And the single sticks and samplers are priced very competitively. If you are new to Cuban cigars or premium cigars in general then I'm afraid you're going to have to give us a little more information about your palate. You'll really have to try at least one cigar from all the world-wide brands and see what you like. Until then, I suppose my only suggestion in terms of the "classic Cuban box" you describe would be the Montecristo #4, the world's best selling Cuban Cigar.
Smallclub Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 The OP wrote "mild-medium" and people suggest the Bolivar pc which is exactly the opposite… 2
Popular Post Homebrew Posted September 20, 2015 Popular Post Posted September 20, 2015 While Bolivar, is a pretty strong cigar, as far as cuban cigars go. When compared to non cuban pepper bombs, they are quite mellow. It is still, after 15 years, of smoking cuban cigars, my favorite. I have been smoking cigars for over 30. My first few cuban cigars, were weak flavored to me. I really didn't think they were all that. And then I had my first Bolivar pc. It was that cigar, that made me go "All In", with Cuban cigars. I then realized that cuban cigars had a "Clean flavor", not a muddy thick flavor, like most non Cuban cigars. I later began to appreciate, the complexity of the other, milder, cuban cigars. The one thing I would recommend, is a PC sampler. To me, the petite corona, is the best example of the Marque, and a PC sampler would be an inexpensive way to sample most Marques. Dave (A.K.A. Fumadoro Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I would get Rob's New-ish to CC sampler. It porvides a wide range of experiences so you can better understand what marcas provide what and what you like. 1
Fosgate Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I would get Rob's New-ish to CC sampler. It porvides a wide range of experiences so you can better understand what marcas provide what and what you like. No doubt. Work your way through a sampler first and track your own personal ranking. Then order a box or boxes of what you liked and another sampler.
eswary Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Sampler it up. I would give the same advice whether talking about Nc's or Cc's. Variety is better than going in on a box IMO.... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Anth87 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 the two that got my hooked were fonseca #1 and Monte #4 But yeah agree that the sampler be your best bet - Or you could do what others do (including me) you read the reviews here and bite the bullet and get a box when the 24:24 on
foursite12 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Regarding the recommendation to try a Bolivar Belicosos Finos. To the OP: Since you refer to yourself as a beginner, please be aware that the BBF is a strong and powerful smoke. You may wish to start this journey not quite so close to that end of the scale so that you can learn to appreciate the nuances of a variety of cigars without having to deal with a cigar that can easily overpower a novice and spoil the experience. You can kick it up a notch over time--that's part of the enjoyment of this thing. Just my $.02. 1
prettybigkat Posted September 21, 2015 Author Posted September 21, 2015 I guess my main request is a relatively affordable non-overbearing smoke that embodies the "classic" cuban cigar experience. Does that make sense? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
