Not sure if this topic has popped up before but I'd love to know what got you into the wonderful hobby of cigars?

What was your first cigar? Did your first taste get you hooked or was it something else?

For me I was an occasional cigar smoker. I only smoked on special occasions and it was usually a gifted cigar or some crap single cigar I purchased. I didn't really know where to start so I never got into buying and smoking cigars regularly. Then my wife bought me a humidor as our first anniversary present. I have been hooked since. She is probably regretting this gift as it means I'll be blowing all my cash in cigars now.

Would like to hear what got you started.

Probably nicotine smile.png

But what keeps me on Cigars and not cigs or snuff is the whole cigar experience. Sort of like it is greater than the sum of its parts. But the nicotine is definitely a riving factor lol

What got me hooked on cigars? The social aspect of sharing a smoke or two with close friends. A few buddies and I used to go to our local B&M, buy a few cigars, and then sit by a fire and BS for an hour or two. What's kept me hooked? The flavors and relaxation I get from smoking...now, to finish the rest of my BBF!

Been smoking here and there for years. A buddy of mine was over a few months ago and was complaining that his smoke sucked...so I started to research...and research...and realized that I was doing it all wrong. I am trying to only smoke on the weekends as I have a storied history with nicotine...

A holiday in Cuba. Punch Punch on the beach. Bringing a few boxes home. I still smoke Punch Punch on the beach just not in Cuba. But still hope to return someday.

stealing my dad monte #2 when i was a teenager and not being able to finish them haha, oh how things have changed.

I really enjoy a lot of the culture around it as well. I've always been a collector of sorts so the idea of having a cigar collection that I can actually smoke too is very satisfying.

I don't know if being a native born Kentuckian may have been an influence since we are a tobacco cash crop state. I do know that from my early single digit years I've always been fascinated by tobacco, period. I tried starting out with a pipe but didn't get anything out of it. Then, when I went to cigars, and especially with the attraction of "forbidden fruit" out there, that was when I experienced enjoyment, relaxation, and a fine velvet rapture of delight in the well aged tobacco leaf experience. daydream.gifcigar.gif

I was training at Britannia Royal Naval College and we were doing various exercises out on Dartmoor. Watch duties were incredibly boring when it's 2am, freezing cold, and nothing is happening. Many of the others would be smoking cigarettes, so I thought I'd try a cigar to keep myself occupied. We were told it was not a time to give up smoking, and many of us would probably start... Turns out I started - great way to unwind on the odd occasion some time opened up.

My brother had his first kid and I bought a Cuban for each of us and enjoyed it. Then I went through a rough patch and remembered how much I'd enjoyed that cigar and so used to have a Partgas DeLuxe Tubo in the evenings at home when I needed to escape and relax.

Still have the Tubo from the first one I bought all those years ago in the back of one of the humidors!

Went to school in '96 in London. Had a roommate who would bring CCs home and let me try a puff on them (all but his Cohiba Espendo). After trying a couple , I popped into the now defunct G Smith & Sons for ac couple sticks. I think a petite corona was around a fiver back then. It was a good socializing thing back then. It was a good way to hang with the cigarette smoking people back in the day w/o a pack a day habit. Now, with two kids, a house, and job that can be crazy at times, it is just a good way to decompress. Love just hanging out on my front porch on a comfortable night with a good drink (usually a bourbon now) and a good cigar and listening to the sounds of nature after a long day. Especially for someone with a bit of anxiety, a good cigar sometimes is an treatment. After all these years, I just wish there was a quicker way for me to get the nasty aftertaste out of my mouth the next day:)

Probably the same reason I got hooked on coffee. Once you have a great cup, you want another! I had a Montecristo No.1 with my brothers-in-law awhile back and it was basically like 'sipping cream'. Now when that happened, I couldn't wait to repeat the experience again. The last two times I've had glorious smoking experiences like this, I was fortunate enough to catch up with Rob (El Presidente) with some Sydney FoH'ers ( and laugh like crazy about his June Europe trip) and with our much-loved moderator and founder of Cuban Cigar Website, Trevor (Trevor2118).

So, the combination of these two things is what has hooked me. But, the second, catching up with dear friends for a cigar, is what I truly love.

I'm still a newbie but when I first started on cigars I was smoking machine made and smoking them straight after buying from a general tobacconist and some were pretty nasty tasting. Think they were stored completely wrong. Anyway, I hated the aftertaste and couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. Now that I have started smoking more quality cigars this is less of an issue.

However, I looked up some tips on getting rid of the aftertaste and the absolute best method is to get a handful of parsley and eat it. It pretty much neutralises everything. It also works if you eat it after eating lots of garlic of anything else that leaves a strong aftertaste. You may want to give that a try.

I don't smoke and one day my mate handed me a fat cigar and tell me to try (siglo 6 it was). Since then I got hooked. For me, I don't smoke cigars, I eat them, savour them and the result, I don't need to tell, if you like cigars you know what I am talking about.

Cheers
