ayepatz Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 BBC finally broadcast the last bits of Season 22 of Top Gear last night. They cobbled together a final show from the films designed for two episodes (cheap classics and cheap 4x4s), and filmed links in the empty studio at Dunsfold with Hammond and May, sans Clarkson. There was, however, a large plaster elephant behind them in every shot, which raised a smile. But, oh dear, it really felt like a sad end to one of the greatest BBC2 success stories. Hope the Netflix deal goes through, and BBC2's "New" Top Gear sinks like a stone. 1

Warren Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Oh yeah, it'll sink alright. They said that Top Gear was bigger than Clarkson but Clarkson IS Top Gear. The show really swung on his style of humor. A humor that true fans got and only the fools took offence to. 1
btp1979 Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 You should watch the American version. It's terrible..on second thought, you should NOT watch it. 2
CaptainQuintero Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 The new Netflix show with Clarkson may and Hammond is supposedly going to air on ITV at the same time as the new bbc top gear. Clarkson was in my local this week, missed him by half an hour! 1
jacksfull Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Top Gear has had it. And I think what the BBC must not get is that its (past) success wasn't because of the cars. Cars were simply the vehicle for the presenters to entertain us and make us laugh, if you'll pardon the pun. My wife loves Top Gear. Yet, she is anything but a car-person - thinks all other car shows I watch are a bore. I'm sure she is not alone. So, maybe it's time for our three loveable reprobates to do something other than cars? Might be best they don't do cigars. It would be hard to top the deck. But how about "Top Beers"? 1
Guest rob Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 I must get around to watching an episode one of these days...to see what all the fuss is about.
Orion21 Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Top Gear without Clarkson would be like U2 without Bono or The Rolling Stones without Mick. Good riddance to BBC and bring on whatever Netflix is putting together. They have been hitting it out of the park and I am very excited for whatever the project may be. 1
kuma Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 What fools at bbc. One of the best shows that graced bbc cameras and they killed it bcause of some small hissy fit. They will never be able to re-create this show with any degree of success. This show was really funny in a very Brit. way which to me was just different and down to earth. PC be damned and the mates carried that into the programs. Who cared if they made fun of americans, the cars we drive in a straight line or the food we eat / ate. Problem is / was they gave those 3 blokes creative freedom and by god they took the bull by the horns and ran with it. They became bigger than bbc and maybe just maybe bbc was waiting for the right time to sack them. Long live Top Gear in our hearts!
Orion21 Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 It seems to me it was a situation where the BBC folks were looking for a reason to get rid of Clarkson and he gave it to them. Yes, there was backlash, but it seems the BBC execs kept their jobs and will try to sweep this one under the rug. The only problem is that now that the three musketeers are free agents they're going to land on a truly worldwide platform and make the BBC look like the short-sighted dinosaur it is.
Lotusguy Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Downplay it all you want - the guy assaulted someone and deserved to be fired. What place of work do you know where someone would not be fired for physically assaulting a coworker? 2

What place of work do you know where someone would not be fired for physically assaulting a coworker? Amen to that. I'll support the new top gear as best i can, but not the new Clarkson netflix show.
