Borgy Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 The love I have for a cigar will be lost to me or reduced thanks to 2 teenage kids the Minister of WAR and finance(THE WIFE),but the biggest thanks must go Australia's duties and taxes. It's just got to the stage that somthing had to give and my cigars have lost times are tuff for all I know but when I look at the 24/24 they are always out of reach here in OZ for me now. This forum is the best thing and I will stay active and enjoy the topics great bunch of guys and gals. Thanks to all Cheers Greg 1
Fuzz Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Sorry to hear this. Hopefully your fortunes will turn around and you'll be able to once again enjoy punishing your credit card with cigar purchases. 1
JohnS Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 You can't exactly vote out the Minister of War and Finance...or can you? On a serious note...we are trying our best to manage the situation in regards to cigar prices. Check out the OZ forum Greg and don't give up the joy/s of cigar smoking mate!
westg Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Being active and participating is more important..it is what keeps this place alive...250 posts this year ...keep it up looking forward to many more Greg 4
Hunter1974 Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Man I know how you feel brother . No our prices arent as bad but I know about the cost of a family! At least all your kids live with you good luck brother. keep in touch! 1
bugg4672 Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Like WESTG said staying active and participating is what keeps the site going, far as money I understand with being married and 4 kids. 1 just starting college and 2 driving. I understand.
Popular Post Stogieninja Posted May 20, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 20, 2015 I'm a single earner with five kids. If you budget right, save, and smoke less frequently, you can make it work. It's just about priorities and compromises. I'd love to be able to smoke Behikes, REs and LEs every day like some of these guys. Those guys are wishing they had walk in humidors in their house like the other guys. Those other guys with walkins wish they were Min Ron Nee. There's always something more. Point is, you will never has as much as the next guy but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying a cigar. Save, buy a box, relax, and enjoy! 8
avaldes Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Press on brother! I feel your pain! I have been paying off a tax bill from the sale of my house three years ago. My only advice is to see if there is a secondary source of income that you can use to help pay the bills faster. Perhaps a side job or some consulting? In a couple years when things are easier, you will be living large and been able to forget the hard times:) Those 24:24's are a real ***** when you can't afford to buy a box!
OZCUBAN Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Hope your situation improves Greg its hard to be a cigar lover in OZ for a myriad of reasons like west says keep posting and participating and remember every day has a new dawn the tide will turn cheers 1
Colt45 Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 The silver lining - if there is one - is that I've found cigars are something you can usually always come back to. There have been years where I've gone all winter without smoking a cigar, and I've been able to pick up when the weather gets nicer. Buy / smoke when you are able. I try ( but don't always succeed ) not to lament what I can't do, but enjoy what I can. Best luck
CUBANO Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 A cigar is just a temporary pleasure, Family is LOVE for ever. Wish you the BEST. 1
Popular Post El Presidente Posted May 20, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 20, 2015 Greg, it will turn around mate. Stay active on FOH, whether you buy or not is not important to us. Your contribution to the community and your well being is 5
manny816 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Keep your head up! Things will turn around if you stay positive. I am still going through a rough time myself, but as long as my children are smiling and laughing I am the richest man in the world. 3
paulF Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 + many to all the above. Being a Cigar lover in OZ is getting worse and worse by the day due to taxes as you mention and to silly regulations... but we should not loose hope.I've been in a similar situation and haven't purchased a cigar for over 6 month(Still have a special few...) but i'm on FOH almost daily because of the great community around here and because i like to believe that things will change. Keep your hopes high and things will turn around. 2

Prices here will never be in line with say the U.S and I am sceptical to think the laws of smoking indoors here will ever go back to the way they once were. One can dream and I hate to be a naysayer but we all here have no choice but to hope.
Borgy Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Thanks guys just felt a bit pissed off with the argument with the wife but she rite. Dam that hurts to say. I just needed to vent and you guys get what I'm talkin about more than friends and family they don't get the enjoyment that I get with a good cigar. I'll battle on I'm not giving in that easy I just gunna pace myself there a light at the end of the tunnel but family first. Cheers 3
TonyAccardo Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 pipe smoking is cheaper Not nearly as satisfying or enjoyable though but nice thought. And really pipe smoking can be just as bad expense wise as cuban cigars if the said person has the same predisposition as alot on these forums seem to have. I don't know this for fact but I would bet smart money that alot of guys on tis and other forums are former addicts/alcoholics/gamblers/etc and this cigar hobby/habit just transfers over. I used to be into pipes and one or two pipes wasn't enough, nor was one or two tins of tobacco because then I wanted to start "aging" tins and getting newer, cooler pipes. It got ridiculous and I'm glad the fascination ended. I find the money I spend in cigars translates to much, much more utility gained than the dollars I spent on pipes and tins but that's just my experience. 1
puromaniac Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 pipe smoking is cheaper And I know a guy who smokes all his Cubans in a pipe after shredding them. Probably not the only one. Trying not to be Judgmental. Just sayin.
manny816 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 pipe smoking is cheaper I tried this as well and ended up dropping a lot of coin on pipes. I actually enjoy both. Cigars now in the warm weather and a bowl in the winter. Honestly I enjoy the cigars soo much more. Its more of a passion than a hobby.

I agree Pipe smoking is cheaper provided you stick with one or two pipes and then the tobacco is indeed a lot cheaper. But in saying that, one can get carried away, I was like that once, owned around 15 pipes, and now only have 3.
