Popular Post El Presidente Posted April 16, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 16, 2015 You have to do it from time to time The forecast was for a great couple of days of weather, my young son Tom is on the last days of school holidays and so I contacted my tuna guide Gav Platz to see if we could head out....all good....and then Smithy to see if he could join us....all good Great day on the water yesterday except for the Tuna. Few bait balls and fewer birds which is rare this time of year. The tuna we came across (mac and longtail) were few and far between, spooky and unco-operative. it is not always like this....we have had days that they are thick and aggressively hitting anything you throw at them. That is fishing! Still hard to complain on a day like this. We started at 7am and called it quits at 3pm. Smithy started at the front of the boat and Tom at the rear. I really wanted each of them to hook up and I thought them a good chance on spin gear. Smithy tried hard but came up a doughnut for the day. He still looked bloody relaxed! As they say, the worst day on the water beats a day at work. I took the fly rod at about 1pm and had my first casts. To be honest I had a ball helping Tom out and seeing them both enjoying themselves. While I cast on the fish that we saw repeatedly, no takes at all. Still, i had a great time. What thrilled me was Tom's first Tuna. A good sized mac. Priceless! 11
BigBruce Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I guess that's why they call it fishing & not catching. Great first Tuna Tom! I know y'all had a great time hanging out together & it is always fun being out on the water all day. Better luck next time!
OZCUBAN Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Great post glad your having a great time.Time with Tom priceless, smithy' looking well also Cheers
Habana Mike Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Love it. Wish I'd been there. Of course with my luck I'd be commiserating with Smithy vs. celebrating with young Tom. Either way it would have been a great time!

Ken Gargett Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 at least you are learning. been telling you for years that every time i take a drink it is a tax deduction. not that i would claim it, of course, in case any of our most esteemed colleagues whom might have gainful employment with the ATO were wondering.
El Presidente Posted April 16, 2015 Author Posted April 16, 2015 at least you are learning. been telling you for years that every time i take a drink it is a tax deduction. not that i would claim it, of course, in case any of our most esteemed colleagues whom might have gainful employment with the ATO were wondering. I thought you had to declare money before looking at deductions?
Ken Gargett Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I thought you had to declare money before looking at deductions? that is what i said - not that i'd ever claim them. too much sun while "working"?
Habana Mike Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I thought you had to declare money before looking at deductions? So, Ken drinks for free and you smoke for free? I want both your jobs, where do I apply?

JohnS Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Pretty soon we'll be discussing handing out Industry awards like the Oscars!
Ken Gargett Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 So, Ken drinks for free and you smoke for free? I want both your jobs, where do I apply? on what planet does anyone think i smoke for free? i wish.
Habana Mike Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 on what planet does anyone think i smoke for free? i wish. Not that Ken. I implied you drank for free, Rob the other....
WarriorPrincess Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Hmmm let me tell you about my first couple of days back....no less than 10 hours each day in front of the computer looks like the next time I see sun will be a Christmas Opps back to work I go
Ken Gargett Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Pretty soon we'll be discussing handing out Industry awards like the Oscars! i can see rob tottering down the red carpet and making the speech. it would be norman gunston wins a logie all over again." "it's not just you up there. There are many other people behind the scenes that you have to carry as well. there are so many other people i'd like to mention but i've forgotten their names and most of them will sink without a trace anyway". the acceptance speech - it comes in about 1.50. (who the hell, in an award acceptance speech, thanks for their mother for not having an abortion!!!!) for those not from oz or too young, noran was the funnieest bloke we have ever produced. this is him, pre logie win, interviewing sally struthers and trying to explain the logies. 1

Scroats Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 That looks amazing. I'm putting tuna fishing on the long and growing list of things to do when I eventually get myself over to that side of the world.
Hypersomniac Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Looks like it was a blast. Good for Tom on that tuna!
Ubergosupro69 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Gorgeous. I wish I was fishing instead of programming right now
