Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill Gran reserva

Recommended Posts

This may end up sounding negative, but that is not my intent.

The regular production WC was a 2010 release (tobacco could be up to three years older ?)

- was a GR release considered when this cigar was planned

- is it that the '09 tobacco was thought fit for a RyJ GR release

- other?

Signed,

simply curious.

Maybe they had bails of tobacco from the Churchill Reserva left over and used that.

I'm not sure of the blend specifics between all the Churchill lines but it wouldn't be a stretch to think that the original Churchill shares at least some tobaccos with its shorter/fatter brothers

One other question is what justifies a regular cigar to become a Gran Reserva?

The first three GR release I can understand. I can also understand the Reserva Releases. All of them are mainstays in the portfolio.

But the RyJ WC? As you stated above, it got introduced in 2010. And now a GR with Tobacco from 2009 will be introduced later in the year. I cannot imagine that they had envisioned it to be a GR when it got released back in 2010.

I personally think that they got it wrong with the Churchill back in 2012. This should have been a GR instead of a Reserva.

regards

Lars

I'd be pretty excited to get my hands on some of these...as the Prez said, the RyJ WC is a cigar that can be bought BLIND anywhere in the world the quality is so on. I happen to like the wide very much...

Lame choice of cigar for a "Gran Reserva" release. The first three made sense in that they can be viewed as flaghships for their marca.

If you're going to do an RyJ GR you choose the "Churchill". (the original one, not one of the many bastard children). Oh wait, but they flubbed a GR release by making the Churchill a "Reserva" release. (and not a good one at that I hear).

There are so many better choices than a RyJ WC GR.

I submit. (For unrepresented marcas)

  • H Upmann Sir Winston.
  • Bolivar Coronas Gigantes
  • Ramon Allones Gigantes.

For previously represented marcas.

  • Montecristo A
  • Montescristo Especial No 1
  • Cohiba Coronas Especial
  • Cohiba Esplendido

And just think of what great retired cigars they could bring back via the GR label?

I would be in favor of any of these over the R&J WC as I'm sure most would be. I would even add Punch and SLR DC's to that list.

Seems like an opportunity missed.

The RyJ Churchill Reserva was crap.

Have a few to try. Waiting for summer...."crap" is not somehting I wanted to hear! lol

BTW the SIG VI GR should have been an Esplendido. More history and a truer representation of Cohiba than any of the Siglo line IMO.
