How good is this image below? Fidel Castro has the whole room of fellow political dignitaries mesmerised while he lights up. The last time this happened to me was the last Sydney FoH gathering when I lit up an Aging Room Quattro F55. I had purchased this cigar prior to my joining FoH and it was time to smoke it as it was in my humidor for a while. I think what got the guys attention around me was the dark wrapper!

Do you have similar experiences?

Lit up a Monte 4 while wondering a seaside walk one nice Sunday morning. Only the elderly power walkers and me smiling at one another as we did the things we love. They don't judge I don't judge. The perfect world.

Enjoying myself and smiling I turned around and there were a brother and sister team, twins I would suspect. They were about 6-7 years old and staring confused at me. Now I don't smoke in front of my kids so I won't smoke in front of someone else's. I cuffed my stogie and wondered down the walk to a shaded picnic table and have a seat.

They followed me. Just standing and staring, now I was getting a little creeped out. Then a man, the father, came up smiling and apologized and said the only person they have ever seen smoking was their grandmother and never a cigar. I told him I had never seen kids here before this early and would never intentionally light up in front of them. He said he knew that and led the kids away, all the while they had their heads turned and staring at me.

Almost the only time I ever felt bad about smoking a cigar.

Never had that happen at light up but I have people comment in the middle of a smoke after they've observed how much I am getting lost in my experience. Comments such as "you are really enjoying that smoke" etc. they can see it in my face and mannerisms.

Then of course I get the few who buy 50 cigars for $80 from cigar international commenting on how they don't think Cubans are anything special and are over hyped. Of course all the other $3 cigar smokers concur. I get a lot of "I wouldn't spend that type of money on a cigar when my $3 is just as good".

Fidel is wearing a Rolex.

looks like he's wearing two! 'Communism' at its fallacious finest!

Fidel, despite being a (fill in the blank) had taste. However, wearing two watches on the same wrist is a no no. You end up beating the hell out of them.

One on each wrist is definitely preferable if you're going to go that way. lol3.gif

Seriously, I just woke up and didn't notice that either! Obviously it's for two different time zones. The next thing one of you will do is point out where Wally is in the photo! jester.gif

We should change the topic title to 'What can you notice in this photo other than Fidel lighting up?' looking.gif

Sitting at an outdoor pool at a hotel, after getting off the job...

Nobody was there when I sat down and lit up. Two middle age moms walk in with their kids. They stare at me when entering the pool area. There were no smoking signs anywhere in the area. They had their kids stare at me and hold their noses when walking by (I was already at the opposite end of the pool). If the kids weren't there, I might have said something. I refrained and finished my cigar.

I had my whole family sitting around me yesterday whilst enjoying my cigar. My brothers-in-law both had H. Upmann 46's but because one of them had forgotten to moisten his humidifier the cigars were dry and burned hot. They ditched them both halfway. I was left to sit and enjoy my HdM San Juan while everyone looked on! (Because my humidor rh is fine)

LOL..... oh well life's a ***** sometimes. That will teach'em to me more attentive to their smokes.

Indeed...but the funny thing is, this is not the first time he's done it. He re-filled his humidifer and put his cigars away, knowing that they will re-moisten because that's what happened last time, the problem is when you lose those oils from the wrappers you inevitably will lose flavour, even if when you re-humidify the cigars. Basically he keeps the humidor in a warm place in his house, hence like others he focuses on the rh reading of his hygrometer without paying attention to ambient humidity and temperature. I'll have to advise him of all this next time I see him because I do enjoy his company, he's just too busy to sit still lately! (But aren't we all at times?)

When I smoke a cigar that has a cedar sleeve/tube protecting it, after removing the cedar from the cigar, I'll light the cedar and use that to light my cigar. I find it imparts a interesting and enjoyable flavor to the cigar. More "toasty" if that's a word.

This practice tends to draw some inquiring looks at the B&M that I frequent.

So there WERE smoking signs?

You mean there were no no smoking signs?

Oh so there were no-smoking-signs?

Etc. ;)

Great thread John.

Yes, this happens often whenever I venture to my wife's side of the family.

Normally they have BBQ's and drinks and it's quite a funny thing because a lot of them smoke cigarettes YET whenever I light up a cigar, they all give me this stare as I light up like it's some disease.

Hypocritically, once I'm enjoying the cigar most of them tend to make positive comments on the smell whilst they inhale their cancer sticks. wink.png
