Hey guys,

Another newbie introduction, I look forward to participating here and getting to know you all.

Dan is my name, and I'm new to the pleasures of the cigar world, just looking to expand my knowledge and meet some new people.

Kind Regards

Howdy Munt, Welcome.

There's an Australia specific forum down the bottom too. Where about aproximately are you in Australia?

Been smoking cigars long? What interested you if your a new smoker? Curious to see how the trend in smoking changes as the social climate gets more hostile towards it..

Welcome Dan. Mate what part of the island are you from?

Thanks NJP, I'm just west of Brisbane in sunny Queensland. A little nervous about my first humidor purchase but doing alot of research about the importance of temperature, this forum has been very informative already as I delve into the older posts regarding storage.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the heads up I'll check out the Aus specific forum for sure. I have not been smoking cigars long and in fact I wouldn't even consider myself a smoker of cigars, I've just quit smoking cigarettes as I'm starting to feel the health effects of prolonged use (and I'm only 27). This was bought on by a recent career change from a physically demanding job to an office role; you really start to degenerate quickly especially when you have the eating, drinking and smoking habits of a hard working Aussie, suddenly plunged into the sedentary lifestyle of an office worker.

Anyhow, long story short, I have found I appreciate a smoke that much more when it's a special occasion and I'm not doing it every day. I also enjoy a drink when I rotate home from work and as such I am looking forward to breaking into the cigar lovers way of life. There are so many varieties to try and as I can now see, the hobby itself is so much more than just lighting up and sucking back. Sourcing suppliers, storing / aging and communicating with the more experienced guys here all looks great to me.

It's baby steps for now and I know I've barely dipped my toes in the water, but I'm excited!

I'm 24 verging on 25 but I started early, It's a great hobby and you never stop learning so long as you keep looking. I think the most important thing I've learnt from this community is there's no right way to smoke or light a cigar.. There is only the way you prefer or enjoy to do so.
I've got an old desktop display humidor I'm looking to move on if your interested but the distance is a bit of an issue.. I'm northern vic..

Anyhow, Hopefully I'll meet you at havanathon regardless!

I recommend getting some Quintero Favoritos.. Partagas d4's..Try to avoid limited edition and more expensive sticks to start with... Feel out what you enjoy first.. the more expensive sticks can often be "worth" the money.. But i was buying 1 for 1 when I started and I've finished allot of my "normal" price cigars and re purchased.. allot of my more expensive boxes like :LE i've either hardly or haven't touched waiting for occasions or wondering if im or the cigars are ready to truly appreciate the cost.. my money again.. I'd buy more Epi.2's or try some of the cheaper and more reliable cohibas etc Pres and the other lads often talk about like RASS and punch punch... But oneday..

My life and my budget both seem to be getting harder the juggle.

Thanks for the suggestions mate, I'm also a keen fisherman although work has put a damper on my ability to get out on the open water ! I see what you mean, there are a lot of opinions and I look forward to molding my own over the next few years.

If you like, send me on a photo and a bit of info about that humidor. You never know it might still be viable to post?
