I need to go through my cooler to check it out. I saved the cigar to dissect it later tonight.

Maybe try a smaller lighter! I am surprised you didn't do more damage considering the size of lighter in the background peace.gif

If it's not beetles, it's indicative of varying burn rates in the leaf. You want those slower-burning ligero leaves in the centre of your cigar and not on the outer edge, or else you'll get burn problems like the image above. I'd be interested in how the next cigar goes from this box. Then you may have a clearer idea if these cigars have construction issues of if it was a 'one-off' situation due to something else.

I can bet you though that despite this burn issue you had, the cigar was probably full of flavours, which would invariably make you want to do what you can to correct the burn!

That's most probably the outdoor heater. East Tennessee is around 55° to 60°F this time of year if it's not raining.

The other thing I noticed was the extremely high humidity in your area in the weather forecast. Did you have draw issues with your cigar? Struggling to get good smoke perhaps?

It was a Punch Punch LOA FEB 13.

I let the cigar go out. I had smoked one out of the box 2 days ago and it was fine. This one had a weird taste and poor draw from the beginning and when the hole started it was a lost cause. It started smoking like a pipe instead of a cigar:)

I've had this happen a couple of times, usually when it's really humid. No beetles here so I thought it was a construction issue.

I went thru my cooler and everything was ok.

I cut the cigar open and it was a construction issue of some sort. Basically there was a section that burned faster than the others and the heat found its way out making the hole.

It was pretty humid. I let the cigar go out and went in to eat and by the time I got around to cutting the cigar open it was saturated with moisture.

Good to know. The reason I suggested beetles was precisely this mechanism, the creation of a channel that fast tracks hot air from the coal out where it's not supposed to go.

When I first saw the hole begin I had a little wave of panic. I thought the same.

I've seen this before. A couple of times on NC and recently on a Monte PE. All seemed to be related to underfilling/voids.

It has nothing to do with a beetle hole. It's a soft spot, a place where there's a lack of tobacco (due to poor rolling); these "air pockets" often literally suck combustion.

I have seen several times but always on churchills or double coronas.

Anybody ever had this happen?

a few times but normally fairly close to the actual burn.

except once, the first time it happened. it was with, what was then a fairly young partagas pyramide LE 2000. it was really bizarre. i smoked and smoked and was thoroughly enjoying it but, after about less than half an inch, absolutely nothing was happening. i kept smoking and it was though i had the magic pudding of cigars (aussies will understand the reference). after ages, a burn hole finally emerged about an inch from the head. the entire length of the cigar was still immaculate. really weird.
