Last year I bought my first box of RASS, which happened to be box code of MUR.

It was exceptionally a good box, so I ordered a second box, which had the box code TUO.

The second box was not even half as good as the MUR box.

I wanted to order another box, but wanted to get your opinions for any recommendations for a box code based on your recent experience.

thanks

The age old question!!! I too am curious. I love RASS but I'm batting prolly 30% and I'm getting frustrated enough to kinda give up on the marca. I think when I feel inclined agaiN I will just hit up a 24:24.

I had excellent luck with all of my MUR RASS, and, really, excellent luck among all RA products (7-9 boxes total). 24:24 is a failsafe way to get quality (if you're quick on the draw).

I think MUR and ULA are the same factory. I have had stellar results over and over with both these codes on multiple marcas. There are people out there who say codes dont matter. That is far from true.

As a self admitted code chaser; box codes are a guide, not an almanac.

Never had a good rass. I read reviews all the time and chalk it up to just bad luck and bad purchases. Really would love to experience what everyone raves about with this marca but I just can't get myself to pull the trigger on another blind box. I think 24:24 is probably the way to go (which was previously mentioned).

It's not chasing box codes, rather far from that. What this philosophy allows you to do is simplify, to buy what you want, not what is sold.

Just because something is rolled at Partagas doesn't automatically guarantee that it will be fantastic. The tobacco changes, quality might be different...but you always have to try! It's part of the process of learning, and the fun. I think I might try more cigars than "non-code chasers." Sure, the cigars I choose to try are targeted in terms of where it comes from, but I try everything that I'm interested in.

Nothing is failsafe.

Since were on this subject is anyone smoking from cabs of Rass from 2013 codes? What do you think? I loved Rass from summer to fall 2012 but found dress boxed cigars from 2013 to be less enjoyable, good but not as great as 2012. I haven't smoked from cabs. What have you guys thought? Cabs and dress boxes??

I have 2 boxes of MUR 2012s that are just sleeping for now in the cabinet but they look and smell great. As far as dress boxes vs. cabs the same cigars go into both styles of boxes so I think it is personal preference. I have always preferred dress boxes as I prefer box pressed cigars over perfectly round cigars.

I have a dress from October 13 and a cab from December 13 and both are smoking really nicely. But I notice the cab is more enjoyable at this point in time for me

I think the whole cab vs dress box is highly overrated and is influenced by thinking cabs are better. I bet I could take 2 cigars from the same dress box, label one from a "cab", and most would pick the "cab" every time.

I believe Rob would strongly disagree with this statement.

I have had some cracking cabs of RASS over the past 12 months (ULA and MUR in the main). However not every cab was to the same standard. there were times where i would prefer to purchase a great dress box RASS over an good Cab.

If before me were a cab and dress box of the same standard, I would pick up the cab simply because I believe they age differently due to the fact of tobacco resting on tobacco.

One of the best cigars I have ever smoked was a RASS and one of the worst was a RASS.

When their good .. oh my..

A good reason to hedge your bets with hand picked boxes.

I got a 50 cab (MUR MAY 13) and it just might be the best box I've ever purchased. Haven't gone through a sick period yet. I originally bought it for my wedding but not many indulged that night so I ended up with the majority of it (woo hoo!). Have about 10 left and it'll be a sad day when they're gone.
