I was asked in an e-mail today about the flavour profile of the Hoyo De Monterrey San Juan.

I have seen precious few boxes (more available next week) and smoked only 2 of these since release so I would love the input of those members who have smoked at least a couple in order that I can refer the member to this thread.

If you have tried them (a few preferably)....give us your opinion. Many thanks ok.gif

Based on 3 sticks from two different boxes, outstanding cigar! HDM profile is present with some extra sweetness. Very approachable for its age.

I would like to know more about this cigar as well. Hope to see some 10'ers on sale some time.

Loved the three singles I picked up at Christmas time.

Complex, sweet, mild to medium bodied, just gorgeous. Ticked so many boxes for my tastes. Cannot wait to get my hands on more.

I will put some 10'ers up on todays 24;24 ok.gif

I will make it 5'ers so more to go around. I really don't have many boxes.

Only smoke 4 or 5 but so far love them. Sweeter then the epi2 and love the bigger size. Complex and as stated smoking very well right now.

Great cigar and what Lotusguy already mentioned further above: very approachable for such a young cigar. A bit Davidoffesque for me.

Lars

Is Hoyo - a le Hoyo nonetheless - similar to Davidoff?

Smoking my first one of these now. As stated wry approachable for its age. Typical HDM flavor profile. Certainly mild. Good flavor progression. Box worthy. Not super wild about the size but as a change of pace it's good.

I have only had one from the five pack I recently received. It had some burn issues, but showed some promising flavors. Looking forward to trying it again in 4 to 6 months.

I've now smoked my second one from the five-pack bought during that 24:24 sale. I made sure that I left them to rest for 30 days. In my opinion, the cigar is like a Gran Epicure No.2. It's mild to medium, with that classic HdM sweetness and cream throughout. My palatte was left completely clean, yet I savoured the flavour for hours afterwards.

The cigar had a lovely construction, with good ash and smoke volume. It burned cool throughout, I did not need to re-light and I smoked it as far down to the nub until it got hot in the last 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. I am looking forward to leaving my others to rest further, then I'll smoke another to compare. I wouldn't hesitate in the slightest to pick these up again if they were available on a 24:24 sale.

Thanks for the mini-review John. I picked up a five pack as well and I'm eager to try them after a bit of rest.

My pleasure! I forgot to add that with a 54 ring gauge by 5.9 inches (150 mm), you need 90 minutes to 2 hours to truly savour it!

John, how was the punch instead of a cut for that ring guage?
