acidmase Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I have the opportunity to pick up some boxes of 2005 H. Upmann Magnum 46... Can someone give me some insight if anyone ever smoked any of these?
Colt45 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 An SLB (25s) box I had from 2005 were excellent.
Hohenthal Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I had two boxes of 05 Mag 46 and liked them a lot. I've read more so-so reviews than great ones, maybe because they did not quite have the fuller body of more recent examples. But the 05's showed subtle complexity and refinement rather than mongrel. Seen plenty tight ones too which did not put me off like a windtunnel would. I personally was rather fond of the quality with these but maybe I was just lucky. If you get a chance to inspect the boxes or have then checked from somebody you trust, give them a chance since Upmann always ages well. Cheers, Alex
acidmase Posted January 28, 2015 Author Posted January 28, 2015 hey alex its already 10 years old... I know they could probably go longer, but they must be smoking good after 10 years time!
DWC Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Box of 25 or cardboard petacas 5x3 packs? If it's the cardboard, there was a discussion here: http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=119145&hl=%2Bmagnum+%2B46#entry500296 I bought the cigars in question, they are ok but not great. I would buy them again though. I feel they were worth the money. If you're not talking about cardboard, I have nothing to offer. -Dan
tjohn7 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 The Mag 46s that I've smoked have all been good up to about 8 years of age. Storage methods certainly play a role, but I'd personally pass on them (assuming that you're paying a premium for the age factor).
alpyigit Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I am going trough a 25 box for the last 6 months. Milder than the recent ones but tasty. I also had a lot of tight draws ( almost half) frankly can be tiring at times..

Lotusguy Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Stay away from the petacas that are available everywhere - unless you like smoking cardboard. If they are from cabs or dress boxes, they are likely good (but I have little experience with that particular year). 1
alpyigit Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Perhaps they are slightly wet. Have you dry boxed them prior to smoking?I don't dry box but the RH for my Humidors are 64-65. I will do the dry boxing for them if I get better draws. Thanks for the advice..
acidmase Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 Yup okay guys thank you... Their in cardboard packaging Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
acidmase Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 their actually cheaper then the new stock out... that why I'm curious to pick a 15pack and give it a whirl!
fingerburner Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 My only experience with the Magnum 46 is the Cab of 50 I have from '08; They are smoking well (smoked about 15 so far), but I still find them strong to my taste. Therefore (I presume) they have good ageing potential and would not hesitate in pulling the trigger if you are comfortable with the provenance etc.. However, it should be noted that my general smoking preference is for nuance over power.
joeypots Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 '05s were hit or miss. Mine were a miss and never came around.
earthson Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 There are scores of this vintage around and they've been sitting in cardboard boxes for 10 years. That told me all I need to know. Truly excellent cigars tend to disappear provided they don't carry an astronomical price.
acidmase Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 I believe they should be packaged in tubos I believe, but I have to check Trevor's site to confirm Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
acidmase Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 Confirmed its tubos... Is it worth a try? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk You can Google reviews for these, but I found enough negatives to not purchase any. Again, there is a reason these are still available in large quantities. Recent Mag 46, however, have been wonderful! I just finished one from 2014 that could have used some more time to dry out (I just received them last week), but had interesting and clearly defined thirds that developed well and performed admirably even in windy, cold conditions.
Lotusguy Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Tubos would be a LOT more interesting for me.
santela Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Got my hands on some 08 tubos, they were very smooth and mellow, but I think the flavors are starting to go away, and it's becoming a very mild cigar.
