Right, I've been at this game for a little while now and only recently started buying boxes, but as of yet (I'm ashamed to say), I haven't sampled the following Marcas;

Cuaba

Fonseca

JLP

Juan Lopez

La Flor de Cano

La Gloria Cubana

Por Larranaga

Quai D'Orsay

Quintero

RG

San Cristobal

Sancho Panda (what a fantastic autocorrect!), or

Vegueros

(Bloody hell, writing them down really brings home how little I've explored!)

Given that I'm a chocolate, coffee, nutty, leathery profile *****, what would you aficionados recommend?

Thanks

Gav

Enjoy the journey, keep trying them all, than have to try a couple more of each to really know anyway :-) fun trade opportunity to sample small quantities eventually

More h upmanns! Would also recommend Rafael Gonzalez PC or Romeo y Julieta churchill for chocolate.

Edit: Re-read your post and I'm going to emphatically recommend Por Larranaga since they often have a nutty component (although they have much more redeeming qualities than that!) Caveat is that most people say they need lots of age while I would tend to agree, I smoke most of them with 2 years or so on them and prefer to drybox them for a day or two before smoking.

San Cristobal El Principe is a 'must try' IMHO especially if you like smaller shorter sticks.

Thanks all. The Robusto is my favoured vitola but I'm not opposed to trying others and probably should vary more.

x2 I was very surprised about the chocolate touch

The Juan Lopez No. 2 is a nice robusto with great aging potential. I was very tempted to buy a box from yesterday's 24:24 sale which is still up if you are interested

If it were me, I would go with the LGC and QdO. Why don't you just ask the prez to put together a sampler for you.

I didn't realise that level of personal service was available?

It can't hurt to ask. He gave me some recommendations for a special occasion. Granted this was for a PSP box, not singles. I am sure there is someone in his operation who could put the smokes together for you (Hand-selecting nice looking ones, probably not going to get any LGCs though) and ship them.

I'm kinda missing the point. Are these recommendations to the OP for or against?

IMHO you won't be disappointed with RG PC, PL PC and JL PC. Quintero Nacionalles maybe. (if you can find some with a little bit of time on them) These are the only ones I can speak to from experience on your list that might fit your tastes.

I love Qd'O corona but it's a much different profile than what your looking for. Give one a try just for the hell of it.

And I already mentioned SCdLH el Principe. a must try.

Can you tell I like the little sizes? Maybe someone with experience will chime in with some big recommendations for you.

If I were you perhaps the San Cristobal La Fuerza, Juan Lopez 2 and Sancho Panza Belicosos would be my first ports of call.

Also talk to our host and try out some of the many sample packs available.

Good luck!

Do yourself a favor & pick up a few plpcs.

If you like them buy a box. Smoke half now & age the rest. Very good small format cigar IMO.

x3. I've heard good things about this cigar too. I'm eager to try this at some point!

Thanks all. Some great suggestions to follow up on. Cheers.

Being no expert, Id say San cristobal and jl might fit your desire - maybe quintero as well.

Most of the other has a lighter profile as far ad i've experienced
