Am looking for a new cigar cutter. The Forge de Laguiole Cigar Cutters have gained my interest.

Does anyone have hands on experience with these good or bad?

Are there others with the folded knife design I should consider as well? Thanks!

If you're willing to spend that much on a tool that serves such a simple purpose, sure. Otherwise...Cuban Crafters' Perfect Cigar Cutter is pretty fantastic and inexpensive.

Yes, and they make wine openers as well. Great brand, with great quality. The brand is often faked so make sure you do purchase from a licensed dealer.

You are paying for a brand and a good looking piece, not for a tool that will cut well. as others have said, you can purchase a good cutter for much less.

They make a very nice pocket knife. But $275 for a cutter. To rich for my blood.

A friend has a Victorinox multiplex knife w/a scissors cutter on it.

Cheaper,one would think.

I have a foldable scissor cutter I bought for 10.00 w/a leather carry pouch.

very cheap.

Cuban Crafters have several different styles of scissor cutters, generally under 25.00.....

Or buy a Palio and start living the good life............

I can't comment on the Laguiole - but if that's what you'd really like, why not. I have a Wenger "luxury cigar cutter" - a nice Swiss army knife with cigar scissors. They are very sharp and work quite well. I haven't used them in years.

"Often" is an euphemism. Even in France, 90% of the stuff sold under the name "Laguiole" is crap made in China ("crap" being an euphemism as well). The name "Laguiole" is not registered, there's nothing that the artisans of the village of Laguiole can do against this situation… a shame really.

It's not like it's going to cut a cigar better than any other cutter but if you like it I'd say get it. I have a Dupont lighter...it lights just as well as a bic, but it brings cigar smoking to a whole other level. Laguiole is a respected French brand, but like Smallclub says, the name is not trademarked. Just do your due diligence before buying.

As mentioned there are many cheap fakes. I was able to have a wonderful conversation with a Frenchman that is the authorized importer.
He was very helpful and answered all my questions. There are a few other styles on the importers site that are not on the USA site. Am partial to the one made of natural horn.

As for price, I burn thousands dollars worth of cigars a year, thus the cost of the cutter does not worry me. I like the folding into a knife design.

I was going to absolutely raise hell about this product until I realised the correlation.

It seems like they bought a patent off a bloke who worked with it for a while and made it their own style - which is respectable.

If it was just a no-namer off the street selling this product for $300~, I would be ripping into this product like the proletariat into the monarchy.

I don't know if its appropriate to post a link from another forum but there was an interesting story on the cutter on the other forum for those interested. It so happens to be named after a cigar magazine they send out.
