We will ditch the polls as we can't fit them all in with the format I would like.

Romeo y Julieta Robusto

50 x 124 (4.9)

Robusto

I liked this cigar. I know many others did not. Flavour wise a real mix between Monte and R&J. As the years went on it tasted more like a Monte. Mine expired (to my palate) about 2006 attaining a medium bodied (maybe a touch under) profile.

My Score

6.5 /10

Partagas Serie D Number 3

46 x 143 (5.6)

Corona Gorda

An absolute cracker release. Rich, a cascading array of flavours. Worth every cent and they were cheap by todays LE standards. Had my last one earlier this year. Still very enjoyable but hit their peak for me back in 2007/8

My Score

9/10

Montecristo Double Corona

49 x 194 (7.6)

Double Corona

Beautiful cigar. In my mind the darker LE wrappers really enhances Montecristo. Here they also got the blend right. A Double Corona that maintained yur interest to the nub. I haven't smoked one now for some 4 years. Would love to know how they are smoking today.

My Score

10/10

Cohiba Piramide

52 x 156 (6.1)

Pyramid.

I wasn't a fan. For me it was akin to a Maduro 5 prototype. Nothing really Cohiba about it and the wrappers could make hard work of the burn. I have had some excellent examples over the years but far more that left me perplexed.

My Score

4.5 /10

For those that have tasted them, Your thoughts/rating out of 10?

Montecristo Double Corona.

60/100

Smokeless, burnless, kinda tastey, actually. Did not get through all of it - lord no. I got as far as I wanted - which was just a bit past half way.

Romeo y Julieta Robusto

6/100

I scored it higher than the Double Corona Exhibition 2 because it was a shorter hell.

No but seriously, i actually got it lit and smoked. Flavours were like RyJ if it was non-cuban. 30/100 max.

J I assume that was a recent tasting on the Monte Double Corona? I haven't had one since Christmas 2009 but I have to say my two boxes were excellent.

The Partagas D3 and the RyJ robusto were real winners. The Cohiba Pyramid was so bad, it should have warned us against the fragility of this program…

You must have smoked fakes. These two DCs were perfectly rolled, and asa matter of fact wind tunnels were almost inexistant at this time.

actually, Frank. You were shocked last time when I said the RyJ DC was plugged.

Seemed okay... dark wrapper, good bands - old and stained. filled normally.

I've smoked a couple of the RyJ robustos and really liked them. All have been firmly rolled, burn well with a razor sharp ash and produce loads of flavorful smoke. I'm looking forward to my last couple. These are the oldest ccs in my humidor. 8.5/10. ---sam

From 2001, I've only had the Partagas D3, but it was an extremely impressive cigars, deep and flavourful even after 10 years of age. I'd have given it a 96/100. No problems with wrapper/burn/draw.

MC DC EL: I tried to like these but the flavor never did anything for me. They were rolled a bit tight and never aged into anything great.

R&J Robusto EL: People raved about these. I just never got it. I thought they smelled and tasted like asphalt, not that I ever ate any asphalt. I sold the last ten I had.

Partagas Series D #3 EL: my favorite of the bunch buy they were lip burning strong when fresh. I couldn't believe that people smoked them young. They came around pretty well after about five years but in the end they just weren't that good to my taste. Almost like they were strong for the sake of being strong. I think I had three boxes and the best ones came from Cyprus. Probably original release. I sold a bunch of fivers of these as well.

Els were the thing when I started to get into Cuban Cigars. Some times I think they are blended to taste like Nicaraguan cigars. I sold lots of them when I finally figured I just don't like them. I smoke two or three cigars a week and the longer I'm into this thing the more I feel that I like a good aged Cohiba better than any special product that comes out of Cuba.

look around, chris.

early 2000 LEs are available in England in small BnMs if you can find them. another good place to look for those cigars is the Czech Republic and bordering smaller nations. for some reason, i keep hearing stories of old LEs being from there in good quality - as good as they can be....... :pod:

some in such good prices that i would even take a punt!!

I'm being a bit of a wise-cracking, sarcastic arse here, but....

If one was on here for longer than two months, and smoked cigars for longer than four, one would realize that Chris, of all people, is plenty aware of that. :D

first up, haven't you forgotten the hoyo particulaire of 2001 LE, or am i dreaming? they were a bit special.

re the rest,

Romeo y Julieta Robusto

to be honest, so long since i saw this, anything i could say is hardly relevant to any debate.

Partagas Serie D Number 3

they were good and it is a while but i never got as excited as you.

Montecristo Double Corona

stunners. the pick of the year. agree.

Cohiba Piramide

preferred the 06 LE's by a street. i remember picking up a few singles, one of which was spectacular. then bought a box on one of our early trips to cuba - a steal for aussies as they were $215 in total! sadly the box was not spectacular.

Resurrecting this old thread...

Just had this last night... One of the best cigars I have had. Maybe because I just broke the seal on this box, and it retained its strength and complexity...

partle2001_zpsalf6om1u.png

I will be breaking the seal on a box of Monty DC LE's later in the week, I will report in afterwards...
