Fosgate Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Stopped by my local high end meat market for some quality cuts and incredients and low and behold saw this in the liquer section. Anyone try this before? Can it be than much better than say a $200 bottle to command $4000 U.S.?
leftimatic Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Was it behind bullet proof glass with laser alarms, or just sitting there next to some Glenfiddich 12yr? 1
Maplepie Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Was it behind bullet proof glass with laser alarms, or just sitting there next to some Glenfiddich 12yr? that's honestly one of the funniest things i've seen for a while.
sengjc Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Hmmm...Glenfiddich 12, Glenlivet 12 or Balvenie 40...what do I feel like getting...
Fosgate Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Just sitting there on the top shelf stuffed between those two. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Habana Mike Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Most shops I frequent keep the high end stuff in a locked cabinet, behind the counter or an empty box on the shelf with a note to ask staff for the bottle....... $4K is a great price for that one, it only goes up from there!

chrisgeo Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Having had 40 and 50 year Scotches, it depends. Mostly on the Scotch drinker. It's a lot like cigars, if you aren't experienced you won't notice the difference as much to make it worth the purchase. 1
StingMeadery Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Balvenie released the most stunningly packed 50 year old ! I have the Thirty and the Forty is worth every cent from what I hear

Lotusguy Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Balvenie released the most stunningly packed 50 year old ! I have the Thirty and the Forty is worth every cent from what I hear Too lazy to check the German websites where they do have to declare it but is the 30y and 40y also with added caramel coloring?? The 21 sure is and that alone will ensure I will never buy another bottle. Absolutely unacceptable for the price. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1
Lotusguy Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Ok, I checked - the 30Y also has caramel coloring added, along with the 25 triple wood. Despicable. Macallan and Laphoaig are also some of the other offenders.

Just bought a Macallan 41 the other day too...colour is "intense" 1
LGC Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I plan on picking up a bottle after I trade my car for a scooter.
Rye Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I leave a drool puddle at a couple of the local shops here. We get an insane selection and it seems that the sky is the limit with pricing. For example... Beautiful Highland Park presentation A few more priced around the 10-25K mark. 3
Habana Mike Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 That's Canadian money (and taxes) though. Much cheaper here
Rye Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 That's Canadian money (and taxes) though. Much cheaper here I am not only curious, but interested. What's the tag in USD there Mike?

Lotusguy Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Scotch newbie here. I understand that they just shouldn't do it, but does it affect anything? Besides the coloring? Supposedly, it doesn't affect taste and I don't claim to have a sophisticated enough palate to claim otherwise. However, it's really not necessary so why add chemicals? It's especially ironic when they then talk about the "rich" color on the box or bottle label... 1
Habana Mike Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I am not only curious, but interested. What's the tag in USD there Mike? Ah, not a whole lot less unless taxes are applied at purchase up there.. Average Price $17,219 (USD) including taxes. Found one for $16,999

Found one for $16,999 So after current exchange, that's actually higher priced it seems. It's a shame they don't come with matching glassware. A Glencairn with that metal ornament would be very cool

Seems unnecessary.
