Been smoking quite a few NC cigars, so I got some stogie experience.

However the allure of the sticks from an ISOM is getting to me. I got quite a few singles resting in a humidor and can't wait to light some of them up.

Soon I want to start to purchase some boxes for some short term aging and smoking of course. Thus I was hoping all you aficionados can help a BOTL out and give me some suggestions. I'm looking for sticks that are reliable, have great construction, quality, et cetera.

Also if anyone can explain the difference between PSP, HQ, and PE. Is there really a significant difference between these designations? Is PSP really worth the premium over HQ and PE?

Thanks for bearing with me and helping me out!

I am a carnivore so this is the first comparison that came to mind...

PSP = Top shelf filet mignon of Kobe beef

HQ = Succulent ribeye

PE = Ground sirloin hamburger (this is still very good, don't get me wrong)

Rob's Rejects = McDonalds hamburger

* I will eat any of this but obviously I would start from the top down.

I have bought blind and bought all of the above. In my experience, hand picked boxes of cigars is the way to go. My first few boxes were marcas I recognized, then branched out into things that were new to me.

not trying to be rude here, but your questions come up several times a week. Run a search, you'll find your answers.

The below should help.

Assume you are able to walk into a Cuban B&M and look at a couple of hundred boxes. PSP/HQ/PE is what you would likely pick if you had the choice.

That is all there is to it party.gif

That's an awesome analogy. The adage, "you get what you pay for," seems to be right for a reason.

I realize that and read some of them beforehand, but I like to make my own threads for a few reasons. Sorry if it is annoying.

I just like to ask the basics because I feel it's a great ice breaker and a way to for me to interact with all you more experienced folk.

That was quick.

Thanks for the video brother!

To answer your question regarding boxes, imo you can't go wrong with Monte 4's, RASS, Parti Shorts, and Punch Punch.

That's interesting. I've been looking into Monte 4s, but I'm a bit scared after reading about the infamous number dos.

4's are smoking so good right now young. Try a box. I don't think you'll disagree. The way I look at it when ordering a box of a CC I've never tried, I figure how bad can they be. They're CC's, and a not so good CC beats the hell out of a top shelf NC all day long.

Prez is recommending the 4's and his hand picked 2's. He won't steer you wrong.

TBH. IMHO. FYI.

If you're a beginner, i wouldn't recommend getting a box. Samplers are available but i'd pick your own.

Last thing you'd want is to get a box of things you really don't like and have to stick with them with no one to trade or buy.

I second the monte4s and the party shorts. Wait to see if Rob throws up some hand picked montes and jump on them. I was camping this weekend and had both and they blew me away. Already regretting my attempt to only smoke 2 and age 10 from the splits I just did.

+1 on samplers and/or singles.

Everyone has different tastes. Try a range of Cubans and see what you like best.

Monte 4 on my list then! Thank for the advice brother.

I got plenty of singles resting in my box. Problem is that I got my 4 wisdom teeth removed. shead.gif

Gotta wait a while to smoke'em and see what I like.

I got a short ready to be lit.

Well what do you know, there are HQs up there now... Grab them before I do and don't look back!

My humidors are full ATM. I gotta do some more research on coolidor vs wineador.

I'm leaning towards coolidor so I can get more boxes. The more part is tempting me. LOL

So does that mean that all the boxes, not listed as psp or hq, are pe?

Posted

No.

All boxes that Rob sells himself are within the usual range of variance in a hand made organic product (minus what is obviously the lower spectrum of rubbish)

The PE is however the high quality of stock available, the HQ is one better and the PSP is only for those boxes that jsut can not be any better. All these classificiations are only if avaiable. ie, if the stock of Monte 4s for the month is crap, there will be no HQ or anything and rob will post up saying that the Monte 4s for that month is rubbish etc...

This man knows.

My method now is to simply email Czars and ask what's great ATM in a particular marca or three. Unless something is catching my fancy in HQ or PSP (or PE if I choose) and I can get it I kind of choose a few and let Rob and Co guide me to the best choice for that selection. I have not got a single smoke I have not been very pleased to get.

Oh for crying out loud. Every post a duplicate FFS.

Oh well for starter boxes I would either go for old reliables like RASCC, HdM epi #2's, Parti shorts. What I did for a little while was grab 10 count boxes and try to get a feel for different marcas, not very successful but also not very expensive

Hey Cigar Enthusiast, how did you like the Rass, never heard an update.

RASS was pretty good. It was a nice sweet syrupy smoke with some wood, coffee, and leather notes. Maybe I'll come it more diligently next time and review it.

Bolivar Petit Coronas

Hoyo Epicure #2

they never disappoint

Got a few Bolivar PC. Tried to get some Epicures, but it seemed the people I traded with were out. It's still on my list!

I keep hearing about this Czar. Would you mind informing me through some means who he is?

Pedro was not referring to your post, but to a strange problem where some people's posts are appearing twice in quick succession.
