potpest Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Amazing, a rational decision...bodes well for the future of cigars
Grahamsant Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Amazing, a rational decision...bodes well for the future of cigars Couldn't agree more! Part of the reason I love buying boxes of cigars is for the boxes themselves and the presentation!
Maplepie Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 absolutely brilliant. H&F does a ravishingly well job getting those papeletas and the Por Larranga bands. man would it be shite if it was all murky green.......
Zigatoh Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Err, wut mapleplie? Anyway, great decision for anyone wanting to buy cigars from UK vendors...
Maplepie Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Err, wut mapleplie? that's Maplepliers to you! and I was talking about the UK regionals. H&F has a lot of sway and does some absolutely stellar looking REs. just look at the Punch Gold Medal. or the PL Regalos and Magnificos. even a nice touch on the Juan Lopez. papeletas are the giant stickers on the right side of the box that bears the logo of the marca. nice touch and throwback to the old vintage looking boxes. that would've all disappeared with the plain packaging bullshit. either that, or maybe we'd finally get that Ireland RE, eh Andy? Pedro2486 Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Happy for the UK denizens, wish our thought police took the same attitude. I get really sick of trying to peel off the crappy green labels to reveal the bands beneath. Hey Maplepry speaking of H&F and UK regionals are you exited about the RA being made for H&Fs anniversary next year? I'm watching with great interest and anticipation, already have some people lined up to grab some if I can get them online

I'm watching with great interest and anticipation, already have some people lined up to grab some if I can get them online i'm slightly interested in the Por Larranga Sober Aliens (that's how i remember the name ) depends on first construction and tasting, they may be another Magnificos. plus, they've got that nice 'gold bar' band that the other PLs have the H&F 225s should be nice. but damn would they carry a hefty price... Who remembers the Bolivar Centenary!? I don't. What were the prices of Bolivar Cents when they first came out?? should be the same as the RA 225s, no? 2
Ryan Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I've seen the wording of the bill to introduce plain packaging for tobacco in Ireland. No exemption for cigars or pipe tobacco. The bill is still being debated but not looking good. The UK decision might help. Plain packaging could mean the end of legal cigar sales in Ireland. Ireland is about 5% of Hunters and Frankau's sales, the only official distributer. I can't see them creating all those plain packets for Ireland. One of the senators here working the hardest to get the legislation through with no exemptions is an oncologist who donates his entire salary to cancer research. He replied to an email from a cigar shop manager here telling him to start looking for another job. It's not looking good at all. There is an EU directive from April that might overrule an Irish decision but the Irish government would fight that, the wording of the EU directive is vague enough that it could be fought. The minister for health here is pushing the bill because he f'ed up so much other stuff he's looking for a distraction.
