Reevzy Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Glenmorangie The Quinta Ruban. I pretty much turn to jelly at every sip. Thick velvet on the tongue that oozes dark chocolate and blood orange.
fokker4me Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 Unfortunately I do not. I was able to locate 2 bottles weeks ago out of state but it was very hard to find and I can not replace it now. Good luck and happy hunting. Got a lead on any Fokker? I've searched high and low in Cali but no joy. Best of for 2014 (so far) High West Rendesvous Rye absolutely gorgeous stuff.
Aksan Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 good call. best so far for me is the glenlivet nadurra 0512T which is a complex cask strength vanilla bomb (best after bottle half way down) that said plenty more whiskies to get through yet g Agree, got better last 25% of the bottle. first half was just ok to me.
TM-US Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I fell in love with the Bruichladdich Links Vahalla (I am a laddie *****). The Gordon and Macphail Highland park cask strenght struck a cord also. The Comus was a very suprising compared to the other Octomore. Guess I'll have to open that black art 3.1 that is staring at me Rye. ;-) Black Art is awesome. If you have a bottle, enjoy it. I should have bought more at $185 for the 3.1 as I am unwilling to spend the $325 for the 4.1.

I'm thinking I'd best hurry up and grab the cheaper bottles while I can.
cigardude Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 #1 would be Laphroig Quarter Cask, #2 isnt a scotch but a Peated Irish whiskey called Connemara.....I find both excellent with a medium bodies cigar.

Rye Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Where are you located? Is it legal to ship liquor there?I'm near Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Pretty sure I can ship, but run the risk of a huge tax/duty hit importing.
lipher Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Laphroaig Triple Wood..........I'm a Laphroaig fan. It's a 48% strength, matured in ex-bourbon barrels, then in Quarter Casks, and finished in large European Oak casks (thus the triple wood). It's a perfect assault on the mouth. I just picked it up... Wow its damn awesome how it evolves. Nice long finish too
shlomo Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Jim Murray just announced his top whisky of the year....Yamazaki!
canadianbeaver Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Love that one Shlomo but best? I don't know. Give me my Scapa 16 and I am a happy girl.
Lotusguy Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Jim Murray just announced his top whisky of the year....Yamazaki! Yeah - but one that is not available in US. Sherry cask, I think it is called. Now prices for the Yamazaki will get even crazier.
shlomo Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Yeah - but one that is not available in US. Sherry cask, I think it is called. Now prices for the Yamazaki will get even crazier. Yep. On another forum there is a good theory that he picked it for no other reason than to generate some controversy and prop up his book sales. I'm not sure I'm convinced, especiaqlly since I have never tasted any Yamazaki or even any Japanese whisky, but it is an interesting theory.
shlomo Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Love that one Shlomo but best? I don't know. Give me my Scapa 16 and I am a happy girl. "Best" is subjective, just like cigars or coffee. 1
dougincanada Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Best whiskey I have had recently is Gibson's Finest 12yr blend. Its available in Canada and US. I am not certain about Oz? It is slighty smoother and sweeter than Crown Royal. Plus they sponsor the Canadian Football League. Tiger-Cats are going for the Grey Cup. Oskie we we oskie wa wa holy mackinaw! Ti-Cats eat em raw. (local cheer don't ask for explanation). regards, Doug

My dad was a Crown Royal man. Me, I am a Tullamore Dew guy. No need to get fancy round here. But I would if I could afford to.

Ken Gargett Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 by chance, did a piece on whisky for Ocean magazine recently. with the article, included some tasting notes and yamazaki was among them. really liked it. it was the 12, not the sherry cask. for what it is worth, have set out the notes. they are very brief. space precluded anything more. always interested if anyone has any disagreements. Tasting Notes The Yamazaki 12 Years Single Malt Opens with a delightful caramelly, chocolate nose. Orange rind, quince paste and old tobacco. A lovely mix of fire and ice. Balance and length. Superb malt which finishes with power. Hibiki 12 Years A fragrant and gentle style, some oak notes. Peaches and stonefruit characters on the palate. Not dissimilar to the very best Bourbons. A subtle and complex style. Talisker Dark Storm Quite a briny style and probably as peaty as anything recently made by Talisker. Some citrus and pepper. Ginger and a little seaweed with a nice kick to finish. Very attractive. Laphroaig PX Cask Has a delightful combination of the Laphroaig peat with the sherry sweetness. Complex and never loses that typical Laphroaig character. Leather, seaweed on a windswept beach. Touch of the tropicals as well. Ardbeg 10 Year Old Peat in spades here but never out of balance. Glorious, complex Whisky. Cinnamon, oystershell, peach, orange rind, tobacco leaf. The pale colour belies the joys to come. Great intensity, no shrinking violet. If you enjoy this style, this is heaven. Ardbeg Corryvrecken When a whisky is named after an infamous whirlpool, “where only the bravest souls dare to venture”, warning bells are clanging. Not for the faint-hearted. Powerful stuff, almost medicinal. Seashell notes with citrus, berry and chocolate. There is peat but not as much as in the 10 Year. Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve A classic blended whisky with honey, glacéd fruits and caramel notes. Has a touch of smoke. High class Whisky from a famous producer. Glenmorangie 'The Original' A lovely aromatic Whisky with orange pepper notes. A creamier style than some. The spices include a delightful nutmeg character. What stands out here is the satiny texture. Glenmorangie 'Nectar D'or' Matured in Sauternes casks, this is all butterscotch, nutmeg and ginger. Lovely creamy texture. More obvious fruit notes than some and more approachable. Lagavulin 16 Years Easy to see why this Whisky has such a devoted fan base. Peat, iodine, seaweed and a freshly extinguished campfire. Finely balanced with sledgehammer power. Stunning. Glenfarclas 15 Years Complex and alluring aromatics, this elegant balanced Whisky drinks better than many older offerings from other distilleries. Cumquats, tobacco leaf. Utterly refined. $112 Glenfarclas 30 Years Notes of rich fruit cake, great depth. Some smoky notes and old sherry tones entwine with ripe tropical and chocolate characters One for a very special occasion. $372 1
lipher Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Best new bottle is probably the Laphroaig triple wood. This was after the companta left me disappointed.
KJND Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Saz 18... Such a deep flavor for only 90 proof. Could nose the empty glass for the remainder of the night and be satisfied.
