Lant63 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Personally I have not been thrilled with any Limited Edition Cigar I have smoked although I have only smoked a few. I love the LCDH releases between the Ramon Allones Superiores and the Partagas Culebra. People also rave about the HURR and the new Connie A. But, my favorite is the Regional Program. I have yet to have a "Bad" regional cigar plus I like collecting them as a lot of them are numbered boxes made for only one year. In addition to that the 2014 Regional releases have me really, really, really.... really excited. I plan on making multiple purchases of the following (from Trevor's site, I hope they all become a reality): Belinda - Bosphorus Edición Regional Turquía (I will try these but I don'd like the petite robusto size) Diplomáticos - Bushido Edición Regional Asia Pacifico (at least one box)La Flor de Cano - Siboney Edición Regional Canada (these like all the Canadian Releases will be around for a while but hopefully they are as good as the rest of the regionals of the marca plus the minuto size I love) Ramón Allones - Perfectos Edición Regional Suiza (old style band, at least one box, I hope they are similar in taste and price as the RACF only a box of ten though) Ramón Allones - 898 Edición Regional Alemania (10 boxes, okay maybe more) This is just my 20 year old opinion, how do you guys feel?
in0gravity Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 By the way it is not a Belinda but a Bolivar that Turkey will receive. regards Lars
Lant63 Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 Jars I would say. I thought about adding Jars but some of them are regional releases(Italy, Cuba). I will add it though.
Maplepie Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Oh i've had some really, really bad regional cigars... Specifically young Punch and ERdMs. But i will note that if it weren't for the regional productions of ERdM, i wouldn't have them in my top 5 marcas. There is a downside though, Ramon Allones makes way too bloody many. The Canada Petit Piramide taste like the UK Petit Piramide which tastes identical to the Celestial Finos. I can bet some good money the Swiss perfecto will taste exactly like the Celestial Finos. People have also said the UK and French Petit Piramides taste completely identical (note: i know some are Belicoso or petit Belicoso or whatever. Practically, they're the same bloody cigar) Oh and let's not forget the four RA Petit Robustos: Israel, Portugual, Andorra, and now: Netherlands. However, Book, Reserva, Gran Reserva, and Jars are just way too expensive for the average smokin' Joe. Shame, really because the book and jar releases are fantastic. GR and RR are actually pretty decently priced if you hunt them down in Cuba. They fetch nearly the same price as some vintages, actually. So i guess i can't hate them for that... Also, one of the best cigars i've ever had has been a Reserva: Monte 4 Reserva. I'm still going to vote Regional because it ignites a few of my smaller passions for small marcas and turns them huge! ERdM is one of those marcas i would've hated if it weren't for the Regionals. And i can't lie, i do enjoy the hunt for the Bolivar regionals... As difficult as the Double Corona is........ 3
sheppsea Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I love REs as well - its great going to different countries and picking up the local REs? I also not as sceptical as Jeremy as although there may be similar blends, I doubt that they go out to create the same cigar and rebrand it (maybe I'm just naïve...) The only complaint I have with the series is that its possible to pick up REs from one region in another region, I even know one vendor that has REs from numerous regions outside their own. I think this make a bit of a mockery of the series. Perhaps I just a purist/idealist but I think that you should pick up the cigars from the regions they were intended for, or through trades etc from overseas BOTL
Rye Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 My fave is the regional program, followed by the LCDH stuff.
Lant63 Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 Define successful... Most consistent in terms of making quality cigars and you spending money on them.
Trent0341 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 As defined... probably the REs. I have experience with everything you mentioned except for the Book releases and I believe I have 1 or 2 of those in one of my humidors so I will eventually get to it. The books haven't held a whole lot of interest for me although that may have something to do with my lack of experience combines with price and difficulty in obtaining them. REs have been more consistent in my enjoyment than ELs. GR/RRs have also been hit or miss for me. The best was the CGR and the worst was the Monte GR (my opinion only). I am also excited about the 14 ERs. I really hope I can pick up a couple of boxes of the RA 898s.
ATGroom Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 By the way it is not a Belinda but a Bolivar that Turkey will receive. regards Lars Selected the wrong brand in the drop down. Now fixed. Thanks Lars. (Lars' post in the RE2014 thread the other day is my source on most of the 2014 REs, btw)
tmac77 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I find the LCDH releases to be, for the most, part the most consistent of the special releases. Add to this the fact that I can pick them up in Cuba at a very good price makes them also the best buy for me. 1
oliverdst Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I thought about adding Jars but some of them are regional releases(Italy, Cuba). I will add it though. There are many regionals jars but others aren't (RyJ, Monte, Cohiba "regular" jars) but, yes, I agree with you, we could say they are RE. My point is that jars sell much faster than any RE (or at least this is my impression) so I'd say they are more successful than the simple RE.
Habana Mike Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Agree jars are probably the most successful in terms of quick turnover though you can still easily find some of the more 'pedestrian' versions; Siglo VI, Monte Edmundo, RyJ Short Churchill for example. For me the RE inspires most interest due to the new, original, unique or resurrected vitolas and blends.
tmac77 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Is the question pose the most successful from a retailers perspective or the best from a consumers perspective?
Habana Mike Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Is the question pose the most successful from a retailers perspective or the best from a consumers perspective? I view as successful in terms of what I spend my coin on..... 1
BonVivant Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Ramón Allones - Perfectos Edición Regional Suiza Looks great for those looking for RACF
Habana Mike Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Ramón Allones - Perfectos Edición Regional Suiza Looks great for those looking for RACF I'm with you on that! Love the vitola and marca....
PaulP Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Most of the REs I have had have been very disappointing. 1
Maplepie Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Most of the REs I have had have been very disappointing. that's a shame, Paul... what've you had that's notable?
BRAC Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 For me it's a toss up between the LCDH release and Regional release programs. Not really a fan of many of the EL releases I've had though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
shlomo Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Personally the LCDH releases win. Although, I have not had a libertadores yet. EL would undoubtedly be the most successful for Habanos I would think.
MattW Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 RE's for me! I do feel it's a more interesting concept and produces some fantastic cigars!
