Ken Gargett Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 James Bond Has Dodged 4,662 Bullets During His Fictional Career SEXPAND James Bond is the kind of man who gets shot at an awful lot. In fact, he's lucky to even be alive because, during his 22-film Hollywood career, the secret agent has managed to dodge a total of 4,662 bullets. In New Scientist, some context is added to that number by working out the probability of all those shots missing him: Along the way, Bond's also managed to dispatch 198 villains. This is just data from the Hollywood films of course; include the books, and those figures look even more ridiculous. "A static well-aimed shot would almost certainly have proved lethal, but assuming all 4662 were "on the run", the probability of a single fatal shot is about 5 per cent. That is, the chance of a single shot missing is 0.95, and hence the probability of all shots missing is 0.954662 or 1.4 × 10-104, which is as close to zero as makes no difference." There is, of course, some ambiguity over exactly how many shots have been aimed at Bond—these numbers were provided by Gordon Stanger for New Scientist. [New Scientist]

stogieluver Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 The easy one to count would be how many times a woman has said "Oh, James". How many films have there been?

PapaDisco Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I don't think you can just use 5% across the board. Some of those evil doers were much worse shots than others. And he did get hit by a ricochet in Skyfall, so I think that should count and we should be calculating the chances of Bond getting shot twice. Was sorry to see Judy Denche go, she was an excellent "M", but I'm looking forward to Ralph Fiennes in the role. Not too sure about the new kid as "Q", it seems like he has too many duties: IT department, Quartermaster, etc. He should be one or the other. Too bad they couldn't have gotten John Cleese to do more movies in the "Q" role. While I never liked the sillier Bond movies, I did like Cleese's dry follow on to Lewellen's Q.
Skyfall Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 This must have been calculated before Skyfall, which was Bond movie # 23, and this article says 22 movies. The number will be much higher if Skyfall is factored in, especially considering the hailstorm of bullets that rained down on him from the helicopter scene.
AndrewNR Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I'm getting a longing for some bond films.. Does this mean I need more bondage?
ogus Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Pffffft. He has only been married 5 minutes. Try 15 years and get back to us.
Fosgate Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Not half as entertaining as the drinking game. http://filmschoolrejects.com/features/james-bond-drinking-game-kcarr.php

That count must have been only for Goldeneye alone... the amount of shooting in that flick was awfully high. Also, was James shot in Skyfall? Amazing how he survived such a fall. I can't wait for the new Bond movie!!!
JoeyGunz Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Currently working my way through the books, bloody good reads.
