Both of these short smokes seems to have a loyal following as I've seen in recent posts about them, But

Which one is better and why?

I've smoked thru a couple boxes of shorts but I've yet to try the RASCC. I have a couple of boxes on the way. So at least I'll soon be able to see what all the fuss is about.

Love both but love the cabs, so Shorts win from that perspective. I think the RASCC needs more time to settle in, Shorts good to go young but even better with age.

I prefer the RASCC over Parti short for a morning smoke with a nice cup of brewed coffee. I find the RASCC more approachable early in the morning whereas the parti short has a bit more spice than I want at that time of day.

For my money, I will buy more RASCC, but not any more shorts. There are quite a few good sticks around this size and I've found I enjoy them more than shorts.

When the short is on its the best I think - they are both good in their own right. Its like comparing apples and oranges, depends on your mood id say

El Principe.... stir.gif

In all reality for the price you can buy just about any minutohungry.gif (save for Siglo 1 and reyes) for halfish of the price of any robusto, you can buy them all honestly! You can't go wrong with anything in the format. My ranking are as follows:

1 El Principe tied with Shorts (molasses vs pepper and honey)

2 RASCC

3 Reyes

4 Secretos

5 HUHC

6 BCJ

7 Siglo 1

Yes, I know some aren't technically Minutos but who cares really.

RASCC for me.....I like the sweet fruity profile of RA over the spicy peppery profile of the shorts.

But I'm a big fan of everything RA! (even the RA extra)

I heard such great things about the shorts so I finally got a box last year. I am still trying to warm up to them. I have only smoked 2 or 3, but they seem a little hot and a touch bitter.

I do have the tendency to try finish small cigars in one or two puffs. Sometimes I have trouble putting the brakes on. Sad really…

These should last at least a half hour, definitely slow down and watch the heat and bitterness disappear.

You don't play golf with one club lol3.gif

If I am looking for a short smoke with coffee I will almost exclusively go with a Short and a Cabinet short at that. If i am looking for a short smoke with a glass or two of fine wine or whisky then it is the RASCC.

Rascc...then more rascc. I haven't picked up any shorts since and 06 cab awhile back. But I've added many many boxes of Rasccs lol. I do love partagas stuff, but I love RA stuff even more. Honestly I'd even toss the HUHC ahead of the shorts.

Haha! Who doesn't like a little chili sauce? I usually smoke a minuto size in the morning if I'm going to have a smoke and between the two choices originally asked I would more often reach for the rascc.

Now if it were my choice, I'd go for a reyes, monte 5, or el principe. If only QdO had something a lil shorter than the corona. That would be my jam!

I'm enjoying a Partagas short as we speak with a few drams of Talisker 10. Woodiness, spice, earth, slight white pepper finish that pairs great with the initial opening honey sweetness and oak spice of the Talisker 10. I most often find myself reaching for a Party short most mornings with my espresso. We all have our signature flavor preferences so if you're into the fruitier RA flavor or earthy, spicy, woody Party Shorts profile with that slight hint of bell pepper sweet spice that is signature Partagas - you decide mate.

Just my two cents and I'm still experiencing my way through a plethora of lines, vitolas and maracas so.

Long ashes and best wishes.

Cheers.

Which is better is just an open ended question as everyone has their tastes and profiles they like, its an apples to oranges question as what I may like "better" you may not. Two awesome little cigars and two totally different profiles. I like the RASCC when I want pungent, rich, stewed fruity tobacco and I want the Short when I want more leather, cedar and spice/pepper. Both good both good at different times of the day or smoking spectrums. I have found that across the board the RASCC can be more fuller bodied and strong where the Short for me always hits at that med body with the extra zing of spice, if I get zing in a RASCC it's usually a nic hit like the box of 12's I have that are down to the last 4, I like fuller bodied cigars so these hit stride with me, they may not with you. I think both are a must to have in the humidor just for their difference in profiles. It's good to have choices.

Yeah, I did that on purpose. I know it was a bit of a wiseass move to ask which is 'better'. But that kind of question usually brings out the passion in people instead of just talking about flavor profiles. I usually learn more that way.

A lot of my allure of the RASCC is it's limited availability. The best way to get me to want something is to tell me I can't have it. I would hope most of the folks here are more level headed/mature in that regard than I am. So I wanted to see what others had to say about it that smoke it regularly. It would help me see if it's worth the trouble. I know the Shorts so I figured it could give me a frame of reference.

I guess it's a bit of a moot point because I do have some on the way. I'm sure I'll like them, and I'm hoping I'll love them.

I too am "still experiencing my way through a plethora of lines, vitolas and maracas" and trying to settle in to my own likes and dislikes. Thank you all for helping me do so.

I haven't done a proper comparison yet (box of RASCC arriving soon) but while enjoying shorts, a lot of the time their "pow" is not what I'm wanting. The RASCC I have had were, I guess, silkier/smoother and I have found them much more pleasing. I have some siglo I and HUHC coming so I have a broader selection.

Mind you these thoughts are based off of fresh sticks. Once the shorts have aged for a time I may eat my words.

Can anyone advise me on what they believe the minimum timeframe would be for putting shorts to rest?

In my admittedly limited experience:

HURR>RASCC>Boli CJ>el principe>shorts

Is HURR in the same league?

I say Party Short over Rascc 99.9% of the time. I actually prefer a Monte 5 over Rascc most of the time, and I'm saying that as a Ramon Allones *****.

I guess he thought HUHC :D

I am also on party shorts. Just find myself reaching them more often than RASCC. Its all subjective and personal.

Like the RASCC a little better, but also a big fan of Shorts.Every Marca should have a Minuto or Perla in their lineup.
