Cohiba Stevie Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 CQs vintage dunhill thread gave me an itch... It could only be scratched by buying this: 1986 dunhill rollagas (silver plated) Paid a reasonable amount for it, a bit more than the average rate but given its condition im absolutley delighted. Im starting to make much smarter decisions when buying cigar accessories now. I want something that will last me a lifetime with proper care, after 4 years im tired of cheap torch lighters crapping out on me. The aim is to have a cutter and lighter combo that i am happy with and leave it at that, then focus on buying more great cigars. Hope you guys enjoyed the pics. Stevie 4
targa88 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Nice vintage lighter. How is the flame for lighting?
Bclass1 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Nice vintage lighter. How is the flame for lighting? Gorgeous... Also interested about the flame
Cohiba Stevie Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 I havent taken delivery of it yet but the lighter itself has been serviced with o rings and seals replaced. I have been assured its in top class working order but i will post further pics when its recieved.
Maplepie Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 First Alfred Dunhill.... Now his Captain in Crime: Quintero. Ahhhh, the Brits
stukibuilt Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Beautiful piece! Sent from my mind using telekinesis and Tapatalk.
maxcjs0101 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Wow thats nice. That flame looks perfect for lighting a PC sized cigar.
PapaDisco Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Lovely! Don't accidentally head to the airport with that baby in your pocket!
CaptainQuintero Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Smexy! You'll love it, the flame (as you increase the size) also becomes more focused, it takes the same amount of time to light as with a torch I've found. Get your polishing cloth ready!
polarbear Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Thanks to CQs original thread I am also shopping for a nice Dupont (thanks for that by the way, CQ) I'm currently saving my pennies for a LCdH Dupont that piggy is quite fond of. Until then I'd like something to placate me til then. What's a fair price for a 2nd hand Dupont soft flame?
CaptainQuintero Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Depending on the age/ligne anything from $50-$150 can get you a vintage soft flame, when you start getting into the modern pieces they jump from $350+

How is the flame adjusted CQ? I notice there is a small wheel on the back... But then I read online that it's the key shaped hole on the bottom for adjusting the flame... Can you help mate?
CaptainQuintero Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Yep just the wheel on the back, bigger one way, smaller the other. If you fancy giving it a spruce up you can take the hinge out by hammering a pin into the hinge pin, careful not to slip with the pin and scratch it though, then you can get your brasso out and polish/clean up the hinge joints so it opens with a clean snap, also give the whole of the lighter an nice clean/buff. You can put in a new flint while you've got it open too

Having to mess about with screwdrivers or those swing caps to adjust the flame. I have been assured the whole lighter has been cleaned and polished with a full service done on it so I am hoping to just get some gas in her and be on my way. So that just leaves me with one question then mate lol. What is the keyhole shaped hole on the bottom actually for? Thanks again CQ!

I think it might be to do with disassembly but could be wrong, it's nothing to do with refilling or replacing flints etc so I guess it had to be!
Newkarian Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 It is for adjustment of the flames as well when the normal wheel gets out of kilter. Directions say not to use it very often and to adjust carefully as it is sensitive ans will fall out if adjusted too far. I have also gotten the bug and am shopping for one.
PapaDisco Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 I didn't realize the the TSA has lifted its ban on lighters onboard aircraft. You can bring one fully fueled lighter with you in carryon domestic or international (depending on airline). Torch lighters are still banned it looks like. http://safetravel.dot.gov/index_lighters.html
Lotusguy Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Second of total of 4 lighters I recently purchased arrived today... No butane but we have spark 1
