kuma Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Not sure if this is the smoke everyone is talking about. I could be a day late and a dollar short. If this is the cigar then here is the info from a site out of Swiss. Gauge 49, length 193mm / 7.6 in Box of 15 cigars $1599.00 US kinda of pricer.
Ken Gargett Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 that is them. interesting that despite also being 5,000 boxes - as per the other gran/reserva releases, these seem harder to source. be interesting to now if that was because of the view that these are so good or because interest has grown in the gran/reserva releases, no matter what they are.
kuma Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 The Partagas were released in 2013 also Monecristo No. 2 Gran Reserva Cosecha 2005 Ring Gauge 52 Length 154mm / 6.1 in Box of 15 $1669.00 USD release 2011? Romeo Julieta Churchills Reserva Cosecha 2006 Release 2012 Ring Gauge 47 Length 177mm / 7.0 in Box of 20 $1414.00 USD

Romeo Julieta Churchills Reserva Cosecha 2006 Release 2012 Ring Gauge 47 Length 177mm / 7.0 in Box of 20 $1414.00 USD i think they first emerged back then but if you check some of the other threads it is only now they are hitting 'retail'. some may have been available earlier. rob could confirm but i think he only got his tiny stock allocation very recently.
Maplepie Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Romeo Julieta Churchills Reserva Cosecha 2006 Release 2012 Ring Gauge 47 Length 177mm / 7.0 in Box of 20 $1414.00 USD LORD ALMIGHTY!!!!!! 1500 CAD for 20 RYJ Churchills!? i'd much rather get 70 of the regular RYJ Churchills for that price! i even got my box of RЯs for just under a third of that price! and even more the reason why i didn't get those Montecristo GRs!
kuma Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 I know high priced for the average Joe. If you buy smokes that cost this much on a regular basis I'd say you have really made it in this world.
finecigar Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 The Partagas were released in 2013 also Monecristo No. 2 Gran Reserva Cosecha 2005 Ring Gauge 52 Length 154mm / 6.1 in Box of 15 $1669.00 USD release 2011? Romeo Julieta Churchills Reserva Cosecha 2006 Release 2012 Ring Gauge 47 Length 177mm / 7.0 in Box of 20 $1414.00 USD Price seems higher. You can source the RyJ 2008 Reserva for 40% less than that. Widely available
Lotusguy Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Price seems higher. You can source the RyJ 2008 Reserva for 40% less than that. Widely available Yup they are - because they are absolutely not worth a penny more than a regular Churchill, IMO Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Maplepie Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Yup they are - because they are absolutely not worth a penny more than a regular Churchill, IMO well don't be so quick to judge! that's what they said about the Montecristo Reserva at first. but now that marble caked footed stick is probably the best thing i have in my humidor younger than 10 years!!
Lotusguy Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Bought two singles at German retail (ouch) from two different boxes. Smoked them within 6 months of each other and was left completely underwhelmed. For that price and for being "pre-aged" as a Reserva, I have absolutely no tolerance for having to wait for them to come around. People should vote with their wallets and stop going for the bling. The MGR, for the record, I really enjoyed. Same for the CGR (I think I posted reviews of both of them somewhere here). I don't like Partagas so I will give the lusi Reserva a pass. Ken Gargett Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 we looked at the D4 reserva on a vid a while back. seriously stellar cigar. but rob's HQ things are also extremely good. but i have no issue with the occasional high end release, as long as it is not overdone. no obligation to buy them.
Maplepie Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I don't like Partagas so I will give the lusi Reserva a pass. i think you and i will get on juuuuuuust fine. Monte GR and Cohiba GR i smoked within 3 months of each other last year. honestly, pricey (and on some levels, flavour-styled), MontecristoGR >>> CohibaGR. i do not expect the Partagas GR to be anywhere close. these two can still not be beat by the Montecristo Reserva. so i'll hold my breath for the Romeo Churchill Reserva. i'm expecting these to be nubbable and dreamy after at least 3-4 extra years on them but all in all, these are some ludicrously hefty sticks that i'd much rather buy two-three boxes of lonsdales for rather than ONE box of the Gran or regular Reservas
Diamondog Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 PGR shouldnt be mentioned in the same breath as the CGR and MGR imo, i have a bunch and although good, ill have no problem forgetting about them for a few years...really looking forward to the upmann GR...,
Maplepie Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 really looking forward to the upmann GR..., wondering if this holds true for anyone: MontecristoGR was smooth as homer's head after the Shine-O-Ball-O. almost no signature Montecristo spice before the first third. the same held true with the MonteReserva. CohibaGR was significantly underpowered compared to a regular 3-5YO Siglo VI so i could actually taste the cohiba flavours - and not just grass. what i'm getting at is that these are all smoothed out and 'weakened' when the reserva blend is put forward I really wonder what the HU GR would taste like given this trend... and if anyone else saw that happen too? i mean, if you really wanted to sell montecristo, wouldn't you just give it a full body instead of a medium tone?
Lotusguy Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Sorry to continue off-topic a bit. I absolutely LOVE the Monte #4 Reserva so I am not immune to bling either Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Diamondog Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 See this is where subjectivity come in to play, i do not find the cgr or mgr toned down in anyway. I had both in Dec and they were both rockin with power for me, especially given the age behind both of them. For me upmann no. 2s have been outstanding the last couple of years so this leads me to believe the UGR will be outstanding
Maplepie Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Sorry to continue off-topic a bit. I absolutely LOVE the Monte #4 Reserva so I am not immune to bling either not bling. just a VERY good smoke with or without the extra band worth $30 each! See this is where subjectivity come in to play, i do not find the cgr or mgr toned down in anyway. I had both in Dec and they were both rockin with power for me, indeed: subjectivity. but i would look forward to your H Upmann thoughts. seems like you'd find it more intense and powerful. really wonder what that'd be like for you in an HU!
Ken Gargett Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 not bling. just a VERY good smoke with or without the extra band worth $30 each! so a smoke is not bling if expensive but one likes it, but it is bling if it is expensive and one does not like it? not trying to be difficult but am i missing something? 1
Maplepie Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 so a smoke is not bling if expensive but one likes it, but it is bling if it is expensive and one does not like it? it's still bling actually, but i guess i loved the MC Reserva too much that my judgement's a tad clouded. i guess it's also because i just don't want to call it bling as it makes it appear 'tacky', lol

ramon_cojones Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I just got a d4 reserva last night courtesy of a ridiculously cool foh'er. May do a review on it when I smoke it. Looking forward to trying a hu2 gr though i don't like the cigar enough to buy a box.
Lotusguy Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Bling to me is the second band, shiny box, number plate category. Like I said - I'm not immune either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
kuma Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 Found another on-line vendor that has the RyJ Churchill Reserva (ABR.2013) for 445,00 Euro Presention: 5000 Indv. Numbered Boxes 20 cigars Factory Name: Julieta No.2
CaptainQuintero Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Haven't had any reserva or gran reserva yet, haven't been tempted. Too many regular production/deleted cigars that for me are better, cheaper and arguably a hell of a lot more limited. Searching for partagas astorias, upmann no 1s etc has been far harder than getting hold of reservas/gran reservas Partagas tres petit coronas have still alluded me as have the corona. They make these bling releases look as common as RyJ tubos!!
Maplepie Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Haven't had any reserva or gran reserva yet, haven't been tempted. Too many regular production/deleted cigars that for me are better, cheaper and arguably a hell of a lot more limited. that's my logic overall with these. just get the 2 boxes and i'm happy with these. i mean, 500 euros for a 20 of RYJ Reservas is cheap, but like i keep saying: that's a good 2-3 boxes of Bolivar Lonsdales right there!
