an interesting piece of history even if you aren't into cigars. this box was the one that was on his desk and he would offer people cigars from it, when it was empty it would be refilled despite being the box the cigars came in and you could easily switch out the box for a new one. oh and did i mention it still has cigars in the box, then again there is the small matter of price of $90,000! there is a video and a few pictures at the link

I don't buy this. It's being sold through a pawn shop, by a guy who can't pronounce the word provenance. The box is from a maker of crappy Filipino cigars. You'd need much more solid evidence than that to spend $90k on a wooden box someone claims belonged to JFK.

Seems legit to me. This is a cool piece of history. To someone it will be worth the 90k and good for them. Really cool, but yeah, I'd rather have a bunch of cigars.

I collect full and empty cigar boxes and over the years I have looked at thousands of boxes from all over the world including the Philippines.

Looking at this particular box and cigars, in my opinion there a lots of red flags.

The box itself is made of cheap quality materials and in seems to be for a low end box of cigars, boxes such as these originating in Manila usually held cheap cigars, cigars that one would give away, not necessarily cigars that would impress someone, furthermore, the cigars themselves look like the do not fit in the box properly.

I have a diplomatic box of cigars from ex-Pres Marcos and the box is made with solid hardwoods with a felt bottom and top notch materials. It also has a brass nameplate on the lid which says that this box of cigars is a gift from his excellency Ferdinand Marcos, I will post pictures.

Didnt that dude who own Cigar Aficionado pay $500k for JFK's humidor back in the mid 90's?

I've seen pictures of the humidor, considering I could have 50 top end Aristocrates for the same kinda coin I dont understand the allure

Even if it was owned by JFK

I always said Petit Upmanns were overpriced . . . :P

Yes he did. I think it's cool, but I would have at least seen if I could pay 250k for it, and then buy 5 top end aristocrats and spend 200k filling them...

$575,000 in 2012

I thought the guy tried to sell the JFK box on Pawn Stars but they couldn't close the deal. Can't remember for sure.

And HEY! hand.gif Those ain't even the original H Upman PC's that he had Pierre Sallinger collect for him! $90,000 for a BOX and Manilla Phillipines cigars??? I don't think so...

They did for 50k

This price seems outrageous. Red flags are everywhere on that site!

This is actually the website for the show Pawn Stars. The guy with the beard that talks about the box is the curator at the Clark County Museum in Las Vegas. If you go to the home page you will see Rick in another video.

Though I still wouldn't pay $90k for a box. I'd rather buy some cigars!

Rather build a nice walkin and stock it with a couple hundred boxes of CCs.

MY thoughts exactly.... I can think of a lot more to do with 90k regarding cigars than buying a box of someone's'...

Here are some pictures of the diplomatic box of Manila cigars, note the Alhambra Manila cigar bands (old style), the "Sumatran wrapped" double banding and the overall presentation.

How does this compare with the subject box??

I saw the episode with the box on it. Apparently there are 3 known JFK humidors, There is the one that previously sold. There is one that has never been for sale and this one. This is the one that would have sat on his desk. These guys are 100% legit and do the research on there stuff. It's a pawn shop in Las Vegas that has a show that he's been on for a few years now. $90 in Las Vegas is a night at the craps table to some guys.

Just because it was on TV, doesn't make it true. The only "research" or "proof" presented in the video is that they have a letter they claim was written by JFK's secretary. That's pretty thin.

EDIT: The comment above is on point--they should at a minimum be able to dig up a photo that shows the box on his desk.
