Newkarian Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Ufc here. I dont really watch either routinely but a good UFC match is hard to beat. I do wish we could go back to the days before it became so commercialized though.
Peacock Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Fighting in hockey needs to be stopped. And Ive been playing all my life And UFC all the way Fighting in hockey needs to be stopped? Pffssshh. I could not disagree more. Nothing like a good scuffle on the ice. I've been involved in hockey for years, and fighting is an integral part of the game. The rules of the game have been morphing to tone down some of the potentially dangerous hits to the head, etc, but I think fighting is here to stay. I agree with UFC all the way. I grew up a big boxing fan....Cassius Clay was my favorite sportsman for years. I started watching the UFC in the very beginning when there were only two rules (no biting, no eye gouging). There were no limits on rounds either, they would keep fighting until there was a winner. It was blissfully barbaric. They have cleaned the sport up a lot over the years, but I still find it a "true sport", mano y mano. Love it.
KoreanCowboy Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Neither!!!!! I see better fights at Hockey games. You've never watched the UFC if you think this is true. UFC all the way. The skill and athleticism of the fighters blows away ANY other athlete in any other sport.

khomeinist Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Boxing if I had to choose. I watch MMA though (UFC is a mobbed up corporation with a complete knob as its spokesperson). Both are commercialized so I don't get that comparison. Both have shady ties to organized crime. Both are a disgrace in many ways. Both do not value the health and well-being of the athletes. Both provide quality entertainment if one bothers to learn about the history and techniques involved with each sport. Try to appreciate both if you are a fighting fan. You may find the striking comical in MMA if you are a boxing aficionado. You may long for jujitsu in a dull boxing match that is serving as a glorified sparring session.....
TheCoach Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Im a boxing guy all the way... UFC just isn't for me... I occasionally peek at highlights of big match ups, just to stay abreast on current sports events, but its never something I'm rushing to my TV to watch. The appeal of the sports seems, chaotic, a bit unprofessional, and hacky.
Skyfall Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 You've never watched the UFC if you think this is true. UFC all the way. The skill and athleticism of the fighters blows away ANY other athlete in any other sport. I have actually and I've given it many attempts to entertain me, and I can't stand it. It's boring and rigged!
OkieJoe Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I have actually and I've given it many attempts to entertain me, and I can't stand it. It's boring and rigged! Skyfall, Are you sure you are not thinking of WWE.... LOL
srbbones Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 UFC by a country mile. All the hugging in boxing. All the limitations. The first time I saw what Gracie did to men twice his size in the 1990s - amazing. Real.
Armaniac Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Tough call!! Depends on who is fighting but I may lean towards UFC. I'd say 51%UFC vs 49%Boxing assuming that they're both big money fights.
brutusthebuckeye Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Boxing for me...my Dad was a big fan of Ali,Frasier,Norton etc etc.. I was a big Tyson fan and my dad hates and continues to hate him....my dad is not a very jovial person but when Buster Dougles KO'd Mike in Japan my dad came off of the recliner like he had just won the lottery!!!! Don't think I've seen him that happy since....
cigcars Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Hey, Brutus - that will be me when somebody finally does that to Rhonda Rousey!!! But for me UFC all the way. Boxing would be more entertaining if the heavy weights didn't do a hug-a-thon waltz all the way through like they do these days. I used to be a big boxing fan but when UFC and other MMA bouts came on the scene I was spoiled, spoiled, SPOILED by the variety and non-boring entertainment! In boxing the referee has to spend more time yelling, "BREAK!" than anything else it seems!
BrotherBear Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Haven't enjoyed boxing since Roy Jones Jr. retired. UFC for me. Looking forward to the up coming TUF, Canada vs. Australia. Cigars & TUF Jan 15th at my place?
beamer Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Boxing. Every time. I can't see UFC as anything other than barbaric. Splitting hairs? Probably... But Boxing is a beautiful sport.
oliverdst Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Boxing for sure. Boxing is cigar. UFC is cigarette.
jazzmonkey Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Boxing. Although some major changes to the structure of the sport are needed. Shouldn't be as many meaningless belts and way too many weight classes. But as a sport no question 100% boxing.
shlomo Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 WWE. Not even close. FAR more entertaining than either of the other two options...
westg Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Boxing for sure. Boxing is cigar. UFC is cigarette. Ha, yes and Winfield red.
meatball41 Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 boxing for me, one recent all time favorite, watch the rios/alvarado fight from last year, great fight.
bogglor Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 boxing for me, one recent all time favorite, watch the rios/alvarado fight from last year, great fight. Both were great, but the first was the FOTY 2012 in my book.
helix Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 The Sweet science of course, Boxing. UFC sucks since the Gracie era.
Dave O))) Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Boxing for sure.Boxing is cigar. UFC is cigarette. Nice one. Very pithy.
Chunks96ss Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I love ufc but nothing beats a great boxing match
jkljkl Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Boxing! At the end of the day UFC just ends up as 2 dudes hugging on the ground. Yes Yes - I know their using great combos and techniques and takes years of skill and dedication to get that good - but it still is 2 dudes hugging on the ground.
