JohnnyNorth Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Need an advice badly. Trying to find lancero which is cheap and smoking good. So i can smoke them daily. Currently i'm having Oliva serie v lanceros. They are great, but need of some variation. Any thoughts?
Troels Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Por larrañaga montecarlo - not quite a lancero, but pointing that way
Troels Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 also theres a german bolivar RE in lancero vitola, that is really nice. It aint cheap, but cheaper than cohiba
pbibby Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Serie V are incredible. Great start. El triunfador are wonderful as well. I'd check those out
Smallclub Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 also theres a german bolivar RE in lancero vitola, Lancero is not a vitola… Cigars of that size are either Laguitos No.1 (with a pig tail) or Delicados… The german Bolivar RE is a Delicado. There is a "Lancero-like" that is much easier to find: the Montecristo Especiale (the only other Laguito No.1 in HSA's catalog).

CaptainQuintero Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 You'll have some fun with Monte especial #2 Porlarranaga montecarlo La Gloria Cubana #4 Not lanceros but long and skinny and not crazy money
fokker4me Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 In my daily rotation is the Coronado lancero by Laflor Dominica. Medium body, full of flavor, creamy and around $6.00US a stick a great deal. I also smoke the brown label Triumfador "Ghost" lancero. A great smoking stick. Slightly sweet, medium body. Can't go wrong with PL Montecarlos.a great smoking skinny. Just not quite a lancero. The Don Pepin Blue label lancero is also a decent smoke if you like a peppery one dimensional smoke. It tastes good but just one flavor throughout. I also have some LaRoma De Cuba NC EE lanceros that smoke well. They are light to medium in strength but a butter-cream like taste. Hope you try some of these out.
Hafner32 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 You'll have some fun with Monte especial #2 Porlarranaga montecarlo La Gloria Cubana #4 Not lanceros but long and skinny and not crazy money Second, the LGC #4 and PL Montecarlo. Can be had for $6/stick and $5/stick respectively. Some of the better values among the Habanos catalog. They help offset all the $20+ Limited and Regional editions!
sw15825 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Like" Lancero is not a vitola… Cigars of that size are either Laguitos No.1 (with a pig tail) or Delicados… The german Bolivar RE is a Delicado. O.K. an "Lancero Like" that is cheaper and good in my opinion, is the Por Larranaga Montecarlo. Most of us do get the point of your question. They are smoking well currently imho.
LeafLover Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I went through an NC lancero discovery earlier this year. I too can vouch for: Cain Lancero Illusiome Holy Lance
Smallclub Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 O.K. an "Lancero Like" that is cheaper and good in my opinion, is the Por Larranaga Montecarlo. Sure. Just for the sake of conversation: when I started to attend US cigar boards in the early 2000's, no one had never heard about the Montecarlo; this cigar was widely available (and popular) in France but none of the internet retailer had them, then 99% of the US habanos lovers had no idea of its existence. (btw at this time the PLPC was rather rare, and often seen as the Graal of petit corona). I'm glad to see that the Montecarlo is very sought after now, because I consider it a gem within reach of every budget! In the mid 2000's the panatela was even better (more supple, sweeter and rounder) to my taste, but it's no longer the case nowadays IMHO.
TheLiquidGator Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 My Father #4- wonderful Oliva V lancero- excellent Pepin Blue- very good when aged. Wicked when young.
ramon_cojones Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Another vote here for the PL Montecarlo. Nope, not exactly a Lancero, but the most affordable long and skinny out there, and a helluva tasty cigar to boot. I smoke a lot of long and skinniest, but if I needed one to smoke every day, there isn't even a close second if cost is any kind of consideration. same here, goes perfect for my afternoon smoke with armenian coffee and some panettone
Cisco Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I like really like the Lancero format however there are few "reasonable" current options available with CCs (I do like PL Montecarlos and LGDC #4). I've turned to NCs to meet my Lancero needs, as there are many more "reasonable" options available (most being mediocre, others very good). I second the My Father #4 and IIlusione HL, both good offerings. The La Aurora 107 and the Casa Fernandez Lancero are two others I recommend. I'm eager to try the El Centurion Lancero as well, as I've heard good things about it. I do wish there were more "reasonable" options available with CCs, but it looks like HSA is headed in the other direction with their new releases (larger RG cigars) and I don't see any additional Lancero releases soon. In fact, I concur that the MC especial #1 and #2 are probable candidates for the HSA chopping block.
pbibby Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I forgot about the Monte Esp 1. Also the MF4 is a great lancero as well.
Lant63 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Isn't the new Trinidad release to be lancero of some sort? AS for me the CCE is one of my favorite cigars. my question is the MC especial no 2 worth the time?
laficion Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 My Father #4- wonderful Oliva V lancero- excellent Pepin Blue- very good when aged. Wicked when young. These are only widly sold in the U.S.A, like other N.C.'s. !!!!!
TheLiquidGator Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 laficion Many vendors will ship these cigars to you for free. I tried to PM you a link. Regards, David
