ogus Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 How do I keep sticks from burning down one side?
oliverdst Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Ogus, chances are this is a construction problem and not your "fault". I have a box of Mag 50 and another of Monte GE that, so far, have been like that. Are you facing this problem with all your sticks or just a box?
ogus Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 quite a few. I try to rotate after draws
stogieluver Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 When I come across a stick that does this, I find the easiest fix is to clean it up with your torch and keep going. I agree with Oliver. It's a construction issue.
garbandz Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Light the OTHER SIDE....... You are probably.......... smoking way too fast, and not turning the long side down.Counter intuitive, but it works. Also, reach for a cigar from the second or lower rows, the top row will be dryer on the top side.............. You gotta come to a herf here Ogus! We have so much to discuss.....Probably will have one in Salisbury soon, will you please contact me?
PapaDisco Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Light the OTHER SIDE....... Damn! Beat me to it! I have noticed that some cigars are better at correcting their burn than others. A little rotation, a minor blow on the long side and some sticks will straighten up and fly right, whereas others can only be fixed with a torch. Must be a quality thing? Or a rH thing? I know not!
shrink Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 If I were you, I wouldn't smoke any cigar while paddling a canoe. The splashing can wet one side of the cigar, and make it burn unevenly. 1
kuma Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Word to the wise smoke slower. when I enconter this I one; either light the other side or just let it sit for a few minutes and that does the trick.
Habana Mike Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 When you say canoe do you mean that the cigar essentially burns long and deep on one side with an apparent hollowness or just that there is an uneven burn from one side of the wrapper to the other? I've had very few cigars that I consider canoe'd but many that had an uneven burn.

I've had very few cigars that I consider canoe'd but many that had an uneven burn. I take it he meant an uneven burn that doesn't correct itself. Also, I'm sure most know this, but I found it good advice when I read it, you should turn the cigar so that the longer, unburned side is on the bottom, not the top as you might logically think it should be. Works for me. Something to do with the way the oxygen enters the burning, rather than the heat of the burn rising.
Smallclub Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 When a cigar starts "canoeing", I hold it vertically (head down, foot up) between puffs. It always corrects itself.
sengjc Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 When a cigar starts "canoeing", I hold it vertically (head down, foot up) between puffs. It always corrects itself. This works a charm. Thanks for the advice.
