Just got a box of Monte 2's that have been in the postal abyss since April. 7 months in God knows where. Is there any hope to bring them back to life after that long, anything I should do.

Leave them in the humi for at least 14 months

Try amd bring the humidity level on them up gradually if possible because taking them from (for example) 55% upto 70% could cause them to burst their wrappers.

Bovidea make a kit to help with this. It comes woth 3 different packs (58, 62, 65 I think)

Dont write them off. They may nit be a good as a properly cared for Monte 2 but with a little TLC they will still be a good smoke

Yup throw a hygro in a ziplock with the box to get a reading of the humidity. If its at least 53+ throw in a 65% Boveda and let it sit. I'd try one after 3-6 months. Don't think the extra 8 months (14months total) will get you anywhere that 6 months won't.

60% boveda pack in a ziplock for 6 months, followed a 65% for another 6.

That should get them back to a reasonable condition

This may be worth trying if you have recently received a missing box.If you toss them in a fully humid humidor you will wreck them.please read this.....

I have rejuvenated hundreds of cigars, and learned the hard way what does not work.

This works,you will need patience.

Put the sticks in a large ziplock bag with the feet away from the opening. If you want to,you can tape an old band around the foot, this will help prevent swelling.Use one with a straight edge if possible.

Get a piece of paper towel 4 inches square, fold it twice to the size of a postage stamp.

Add 5 or 6 DROPS of distilled water to the towel.no more, please

Put this in the ziplock near the opening and away from the feet of the cigars.Obviously, close the bag.

check the towel daily, you can do this by squeezing the towel through the bag.

when it is dry ,add 5 to 6 DROPS again.this could be needed daily or not, depends on the size and quantity of cigars.

in 6 to 8 weeks your sticks will be less fragile and ready to move.Put a digital hygrometer in the bag ,remove the towel, close bag for 6 hours or so,and get a reading.when they reach 65% they can be moved, unless you keep your stock at a lower point.

Let us know in a month or so how it's going..........

Strange things are afoot methinks. In the last 2 weeks I've received a few boxes that were in that same abyss for a year or more. They were crinkly and without aroma. Which is a shame. But I'm trying to bring them back slowly. Time will tell if they're a lost cause.

Cheers,

Greg

My rule of thumb is always leave it in the humi for twice as long as it was out of it

Not sure where I heard it but its easy to remember

I just received a box of Monte #2s that had been lost since April, and they were in perfect condition. They smelled great, had normal squishiness, etc. I put those right in my humidor a couple weeks ago, and they haven't cracked or anything. Perhaps I just got lucky.

I recently received two boxes that were sent two and three years ago.

This is all just incredible to me. Why are all these long lost sticks showing up all of a sudden. I would love to know, but my theory is it is from the top.

I have no idea, but I wish they were sealed in the food saver bags like some vendor do. There would no worries about humidity. Both are cabinet style boxes and still have aroma which I find amazing. The two year box, Siglo I, look ok so I smoked one which was good. The three year old, H Upmann Connie No. 1, look dry. Maybe the varnish on the Siglo I helped preserve the cigars.

Recently received an MIA package myself. Contents appeared in decent shape.

Seems there may be climate-controlled storage along the way perhaps.....

Anybody know what's going here? The delayed receipts have really piqued my curiosity, particularly since they cover a long period of time.

Before starting your rejuvenation project, measure the existing RH in the sticks. If they are still in the plastic bag they came in, just slip a small, digital hygrometer in and reseal the bag for a bit and check the number. You may be pleasantly surprised. Different plastics have different permeabilities and if you got lucky your M2's were well sealed and the cigars themselves started with enough moisture to survive their ordeal. Once you know the existing moisture level in the sticks then you can plan your next steps appropriately.

Good Luck!cigar.gif

Don't laugh. Just got another box today , almost 2 years in no mans land. Wtf

this is amazing to read that so many are getting boxes they ordered years ago. If I may ask, what happened 2-3 yrs ago when they went lost? Did the vendor send another package or no? Thats my fear of spending $$ and then never getting the product

I recently got a box of 10 Lusis that went missing a couple years ago. Surprisingly, they still had a nice aroma &a bit of spring to the touch. They're in my humi & I'll try one in a couple months. From a box code I especially liked I still have another box of 10 from the same code for comparison.

This IS odd, I also received missing boxes. Monte petit edmundo from an October 2012 order and a box of psd4 late from march this year.

They came about a month ago the same day. Both were dry but not fragile so I lit up one each just for fun the mont actually smoked OK but the d4 was a little flat neither box has any aroma to and both were wrapped in bubble wrap

Also have received missing boxes these past few weeks. Add me to the list. Cigars all fine but real bummer probably won't ever reach their peak now

Also received some boxes that were MIA; one of them goes back a year. Amazingly they arrived in excellent condition. I will let them rest for a few months in the humidor before giving them a try.

Add me to the list as well. I just put the box and a half in my humi and probably won't look at them until next summer at the soonest. I'm not too concerned about the comments regarding split wrappers and gradually easing up the humidity. I've found that cigars are a lot more resilient than many think they are.
