That's the essential thing, a lack of soul. The computer generated stuff looks too perfect, too clean and sterile. There are just too many older animated cartoons to mention... Fat Albert, Galaxy Rangers, Inspector Gadget, Alvin & the Chipmunks etc. Then there are the short cartoons like Danger Mouse and Bananaman. And of course the 80's had the commercial/cartoons; M.A.S.K., Sky Commanders, Masters of the Universe, Centurions, Silverhawks, Ring Raiders... damn there were a lot of these! And finally, Japanese manga like the Macross series (Robotech, Armies of the Southern Cross and Mospeada), Star Blazers, Voltron, Mazinger-Zand Space Pirate Captain Harlock.
