rkd Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Does it matter if you leave the wrapper on the cigars when storing them in a cabinet humidor?
Hemsworth Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Short answer...no. Long answer, and not to be a "search Nazi"...but try the search function for many, many hours of debate on that subject.
Hemsworth Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 Lol...I just tried it and only this post comes up? Google it for the endless discussions.
rkd Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 Thanks for the reply. Yeah I tried the search but didn't come up with anything so I figured why not ask.
Hemsworth Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 My new policy...TRY the search function before telling someone to use it! Lol.

Jnaube Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I would say that if it's a tube, you might as well take your cigars out of it and put them in your humi. The wrappers (non cubans) are generally made of cellophane and let the humidity pass. I would not care about leaving it there.
semifan1 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I have done both but really didn't notice a difference. Wait I take that back I did notice a slight dryness to the wrapped ones but not much. There were of course NC's
Squarehead Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 If you take off the wrapper the cigar becomes unsmokeable.I'm pretty sure you mean the cellophane sleeve. As for the cello it really doesn't matter,on or off.
Hafner32 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I've done countless google searches on the matter and it seems that most people seem that there is not much of a difference while others claim that the cello may slow down aging a bid and also protect the cigar if being moved around in the humidor. The other google search I did was whether to leave the cedar wrapping around a cigar on or off such as a Arturo Fuente Anejo. There is much more debate on this topic as many believe the cedar wrapping can lead to mold growth underneath the cedar. I actually saw this happen on one or two of my Anejos so now I remove all the cedar wraps before storing.
DrunkenMonkey Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 leaving your cigars wrapped or boxed makes your humidor useless and it just becomes an expensive wooden box This is complete nonsense.
DrunkenMonkey Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 To protect the cigars, and allow you to get to the ones you want. What's easier to handle, a humidor with 80 boxes of cigars in it, or 2,000 loose sticks?
DrunkenMonkey Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 What is the point in putting a closed box in a closed box pointless Do you honestly think that just having a box of cigars in its box, out in the open, is no different than putting that box into a humidor?
Ophidion Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 What is the point in putting a closed box in a closed box pointless Your advice is bad. Please stop giving it.
ramon_cojones Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 cuban pete, just sit back and listen for awhile there are some knowledgable people on this forum and none of them store their cigars at 70%
Hubba Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I am talking domestic situations not a retail shop this is so stupid who has eighty boxes of cigars at home is this for real?
Maxismoke Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I am talking domestic situations not a retail shop this is so stupid who has eighty boxes of cigars at home I have got 80+ boxes, and i think a lot of other people here does to. Oh, and let me introduce you to a few friends of mine. Comma "," Exclamation mark "!" Question mark "?" Punctuation "." They are very handy when trying to string a sentence together.
LLC Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I am talking domestic situations not a retail shop this is so stupid who has eighty boxes of cigars at home Probably more members than you'd imagine.
Maxismoke Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 The argument is not that 70% is wrong, even though most BOTL's agree a little bit lower makes them smoke better. The argument is your suggestion that it's not only wrong but even in your own words "pointless" to store whole boxes of cigars in a humidor.
ramon_cojones Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 There is nothing better than a new member coming onto the board and immediately spewing nonsense telling people what to do. And lol @ linking a xikar video (which by the way nobody is going to watch). Seriously stop posting and read the forum for a few weeks.
Maxismoke Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Yeah, i have a hard time taking "advice" from someone thinking buying a WHOLE box of cigars is crazy and storing the box in a humidor an even dumber thing. :-)
Ophidion Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 So Xikar are wrong then and so are Habanos SA I keep saying but nobody listens it depends where you live and your local humidity on what your humidor is set to Habanos SA also cancelled the Diplomatico 4 so their opinion on anything is suspect at best.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 NC tend to taste better at a higher rh 70+ while Cubans tend to taste better at 65 and below for my tastes
