Bartolomeo Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I hope she makes it, I think I read recently in last 12 months another swimmer attempting the same thing only to give up due to Jellyfish, exhaustion, etc
Skyfall Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 pshaw! - Been there, done that. If she wants to impress anybody she needs to do it on a strict diet of Chicken McNuggets, Skittles, Funions and Heineken , wearing a swimsuit made of bacon , kill 4 sharks and a mermaid with a yo-yo, and beat my time. Boring.......
finecigar Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Wow that is just crazy! Wish her the best of luck! Always amazes me when reading about these swimmers who go above and beyond. I can hardly swim the pool a few laps without feeling out of breath- water is not for me

rckymtn22 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Looks like the swim is over because of a jellyfish sting
fokker4me Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Does anyone know if someone has made this swim work before or is everyone trying for a first shot? I think that is how Tony Montana got to Miami. lol JK
CaptainQuintero Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Plane seems a lot easier, they don't give you points for opening a can of beans with your face

It hasn't been done successfully yet with the complete open water like this.
Ken Gargett Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 first done, i believe, by another aussie - susie maroney. she was big news at the time - a decade or so ago? one of those long distance swimming freaks - but more amazing as i think she suffered from cerebral palsy or something like that. she had the female fastest time across the english channel at one stage (may still?). checked the records. first to swim cuba to the US. later swam jamaica to cuba and also mexico to cuba (197 km, longest swim without flippers - done in 38 hours). why would you do it without flippers? i do remember her having jellyfish problems and i think she may have had a few attempts aborted for that reason. i think she had a shark cage but not certain.
