For my next sport related topic lol.

Controversial Liverpool FC player Luis Suarez has recieved a 10 match ban from the FA after biting Branislav Ivanovic.

http://youtu.be/0I1TWPm4n6M

It was a shocking moment for even Suarez who was embroiled in a very controversial racism incident last year.

Even though it was an insane moment, thoughts have been polarized on the harshness of the ban, many saying its over the top with others saying he deserves it.

Liverpool have said they will appeal the ban.

What are your thoughts?

I also just read he recieved a 7 match ban back in 2010 for the exact same thing!!!

Someone should put a muzzle on this guy lol.

It would at least be 12 game ban in rugby union if not the season.

On 200,000 pound a week he should be well enough fed.

He nore anyone else can hardly complain. Someone with a maturity level that reduces them to ball games and biting is lucky to have earnt more money yearly than most will see in a lifetime.

Too often sportsmens mental and even at times physical well being are over looked for the good of the game.

You should be fit in more ways than physically to play team sports at any level, And being a part of a team should ensure the support to per-sue that.

Edit; Hate to say it, But take Korea's new approach to E-sports for example. They sponsor young, at times chubby and unfit adolescents and instantly ensure they're signed up to a gym with a fitness plan and get coaching on how to deal with people and the media. They realize sportsmen are role models and as such deserve the support and investment in making them better more rounded people.

at least a year. grubbiest bloke in the game. long term offender. and that was an uncalled for, disgraceful act.

shame on the officials for squibbing it.

i heard liverpool fined him. anyone know how much?

I heard he's been fined of 2 month's wages plus the donation to the Hillsborough fund. Although Liverpool will not get rid of him, far too valuable. Did anybody see Patrice Evra celebrating the title win? With the dismembered hand LOL.

Which is exactly why this coward deserves everything he's getting right now and more. If he was playing hockey and bit someone, see what would happen to him... LOL

As a Liverpool supporter I find his actions deplorable. I don't care how good he is - and he's damn good - Suarez should be sacked from the club.

Do this off the pitch and you're having a chat with a magistrate. Not so for these brainless squillionaires. Disgrace.

No doubt the poor bite victim was carried off on a stretcher and is out for 10 weeks also

Supposedly when he bit someone in Holland he drew blood too, add the racism and general shocking gamesmanship I can't wait to see the back of him. He can take Tevez with him too and set up their own beauty salon spotlight.gifparty.gif

It's the increaser of players like him and the general laissez faire attitude of the FA towards them which had led me to watch less and less football over the past few years. drugs, rapes, gamesmanship, racism, huge wages et al, it's not the game I used to play when I was a kid (Would have been a fun childhood!)

Since he robbed Ghana with his classless handball, i knew Id hear more of his bad behavior. He is super talented but he is the only celebrity of any kind that I wish got his a$$ handed to.

A 10 match ban is harsh.. Especially if you compare it to Defoe's (Spurs) bite on Mascherano (Westham) some seasons ago; which actually inflected bodily harm on the later went unpunished.. Don't get me wrong.. What he did is wrong and deserves a punishment but 10 is taking the Mickey

This guy is an animal.

Neither he nor Tevez show South America in a good light...this guy does stuff like this, and Tevez gets caught speeding after being banned from driving. Like the laws don't matter when you're rich.

They then go on twitter with a bs sincere apology.

Agree with CQ, it seems far from the football I went to see in the seventies, so I watch little of it now.

I guess the problem is they are super talented...super rich, and super thick!

i completely agree though think it probably no fairer to blame south america than to lump guys like barton and rooney on england or any of our idiots on us - i know if anyone thought brain dead grubs like beale represented australia, i'd be miffed. every country has them. add maradona to south america but then guys like messi, pele and plenty more were a credit - or at least as far as i am aware (no one is perfect and these guys are paid for their ability to kick a ball, or hit it, or throw it or whatever - not their IQ).

but much tougher fines and suspensions and fans telling their club they won't watch while those guys are on their books are about the only hope. i'm not holding my breath.

we had the absurd situation of an AFL player who continually parked in the CEO's spot (apparently at head office, they were in short supply or something). he was warned for more than a year. ignored it. as far as he was concerned, bigger than the club, so important (and he is not a bad player but hardly the best in the comp) that he could do what he wanted. club wanted him to re-sign so did nothing. after he re-signs, gets a suspended fine of a grand. he'd be on half to a mil i suspect. if clubs allow this, they end up with morons who do whatever they want and are then stunned to learn the law applies to all (on those occasions it does).

I was surprised he was only pushed away during the incident.... My primal instinct would have been to throw a haymaker of a punch on a collision course to connect with his face.

I think the mention of primal instinct is key here. Not to be controversial. But I can understand the "heat of the moment" reaction from Suarez. Let's not forget that while football (aka soccer) is not rugby, it is essentially a war game. Like many team sports evolved to fill this gap in modern civilized society. Not many get a chance to hunt or fight, and fill that primal void! So to speak! ;-)

exactly my first reaction but when i looked at it again, i thought that the bitee was simply so stunned, i really don't think he quite caught on immediately.

the other thing that can be done is that fifa or whoever runs the epl docks liverpool points. harsh, yes. but that very quickly focuses the club and the fans on that sort of crap. start them at minus 6 points or minus ten, next year. i think the idiot might have a massively less happy fan base.

and even if harsh, this bloke is a repeat offender on so many levels. so what if liverpool docked him what is effectively a few rounds of drinks. liverpool gets hit as well, you think they'll tolerate it next time. and with that hanging over every club, you watch tolerance levels crank right down.

That would definitley get my vote! Make the teams responsible for keeping the players from being grubs - and when you think about it - they should be.

Deducting points is the only thing that gets attention. Financial penalty is meaningless.
