persianpirate Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 big windows guy here but have to agree....if i could downgrade back to windows 7 without the hassle i'd do it in a second.
gigabyte056 Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Why not create a shortcut on the desktop and add the command: shutdown.exe /s /t 00 this will shutdown the pc without needing to open any menus.
OZCUBAN Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I've got to say, I love my macbook. On e you've had mac u don't look back They invented intuitive

Why change something that works. I am not a complete computer idiot...but I had to google how to shut down on Windows 8. Intuitive?...bullshit. What a disgrace. end of rant...for now I just had a custom built Alienware laptop that has the 'Ducks nuts' of specs a laptop could get. In saying this, one thing I DID NOT GET was Windows 8. I had Windows 7 64bit installed and I love it. Windows 8 is simply another Vista IMO = Complete failure.
MIKA27 Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 On e you've had mac u don't look back They invented intuitive Did you type that on the Mac?
canadianbeaver Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Loving your Macbook (I am on my 3rd and have never had anything else since the day Macs were vertical one foot b/w boxes) is not going to help this PC guy. When you hit the power button Magste, did it affect your hard drive/ operation system in any way? When a Mac freezes for any reason, that is what I what I do and it works fine. So until the next system upgrade comes up, will that be the answer? Sounds viable to me. I would try and update the PC every week though Rob.
marty922 Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I don't understand the hate for Win8. Sure, the whole metro (?) UI is wasted on non-tablet devices. But once you're in desktop mode, it's just like the other versions of Windows. I haven't bothered with the "Start" button fix and I still manage to get around OK. I'm no fanboi either. I've just transferred over from Linux - have been using that for the past 8 years or so on my home PCs. Win8 was installed on my new laptop, so I thought I may as well try it out. Rob, if you're looking for a short-cut to shutdown Windows, use Alt-F4 - again, just like the last few versions of Windows, it will close the current application that has the mouse focus.. If you change focus to the desktop by clicking on your wallpaper, then hit Alt-F4 it will prompt you with the shutdown options.
Wang Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I feel like this silly operating system was designed purely for touch screens... sigh
IcedCanuck Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 On e you've had mac u don't look back They invented intuitive Had one, didn't like it. They are overpriced, locked down, and it's a closed system ... I am not a fan at all. Windows 8 is good for tablets, phones, basically any hand held device with touch screen capabilities. IMO Microsoft really dropped the ball. They are trying to bring the hand held device world to the desktop PC and it has been a catastrophe. Even if you have a touchscreen for your PC or laptop it still sucks ... it is just not the way people use a desktop PC. People do not use their desktop PC the same way they use hand held devices. The first thing I do with Windows 8 is go to the desktop so WTF is the point? Personally I like Windows 7 much better and would not run Win8 on any PC except for at work when I have to look into Windows 8 specific bugs.
Fuzz Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 You shutdown your laptop? I run mine everyday, 18+ hrs a day (yeah, I don't sleep much), only hibernate and restart to install updates, and haven't had one problem yet. Guess I'm lucky!
