As annoying as I found the product placement in the movie, I have to applaud that the proceeds will be donated :)

I can only wonder how fantastic a 1962 Macallan tastes. I wish...

The product placement in the movie wasn't as bad as I was expecting after reading all the news about it earlier. And I loved Javier Bardem's performance.

One of the few decent scenes from that film....

(ducks)

And even then they drank it out of shot glasses!

Not to sound like an ass, but you get volume discounts when you buy in cases and half cases; no different than buying multi boxes for major discount. Plus I used to work at the liquor store when I was in college (to get better prices on kegs for my frat haha, so the old lady loves me still)

Why not stock up if you like the product?

yes but i think you miss the point here.

this was the scene just before bardem shot severine, i assume (apols if not - the only other scene with whisky that i remember was with M and that was a normal macallan? 12 or 18 or something from memory).

the bad guys often make "mistakes" with alcohol. i assumed that this was another one - as in done deliberately by the director.

think of red grant in 'from russia' - red wine with fish; dr no with a dom and bond saying "i prefer the 53"; of wink and kidd in 'diamonds' at the end with the mouton rothschild not realising it was a claret; blofeld with the 57 dom in 'OHMSS' - there was no such vintage.

i assumed the shot glasses were just another bad guy error, helping to establish 007's sophistication and superiority.

Doesn't much matter what they drank it out of because it probably wasn't even scotch.

Yeah. Yeah. I know all about case discounts. Just rattling your cage son

if the directors had any sense, they drank it the night before and filled the bottle with cold tea. but as expensive as a bottle might be, in the overall scheme of a squillion dollar film budget, peanuts.

Fair enough, although I think you a reading quite a bit into a fairly mediocre film. Don't even get me started on the new techno-hipster M. Yeesh.

i have no idea what a techno hipster is or what a m yeesh is either? do i need to?

the film has been covered. i saw it again recently. for me, the 2nd best bond behind casino royale. but where i could not understand anyone not loving that as a bond film, i can see why people would not be as fond of this one.

I actually just clicked on that link. This bottle was kept in the vat and bottled very recently? I'd actually be very interested in how these drink. I have a bottle from the '60s that was bottled in the '60s, but these must be really nice.

Also clicked on the Sotheby's link. Oh my, they have Petrus, Latour, and Y'quem! I bet my friend's dad will be all over those.

I hope to see this do as well as the Tang sale from 2 weeks ago.

For the Bond traditionalist out there, and especially the Bond Novel purist, this was FAR from mediocre!!!!!!!!!!! Those who didn't like this film just may not be Bond fans and went in expecting Die Hard 17.

This was the first movie I ever slept through in my life.

???? I just don't understand! I slept through 60% of Argo, and it won all sorts of stupid awards.

My mistake. I meant Q.

The new Q. You remember that new character? Shaggy looking kid banging away at a laptop all film? I just have a problem with unnecessary techno babble and inane code-breaking. The scene where Bond uncovers the Tube station cipher was very silly.

I agree that Casino Royale was better. I like older Bond films. I am ok with camp. The new Emo Dark Knight Bond isnt really my cuppa.

Bardem was good in a few scenes, though he seems to have mainlined Hearh Ledger's ghost.

liked the new Q. ben whishaw? saw him 'the hour'? thought he was very ood there.

like the connery films but the moore films have become sad parodies for me.

I think my dislike for the movie was its very apparent push to gain the young and rather liberal (popularist) audience.
