beamer Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Finishing a spot on Epicure no. 2 (aside from a slightly tight draw) and remembering I'm down to only a few of these. Haven't had the Petite Robusto in a few years, but remember it being excellent. Similar sizes; Any flavor profile differences? Any thoughts as to which you prefer and why? Thanks!
celtmick1984 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Don't have any insight into your post, but am also smoking an Epi 2, my first, and though it's unquestionably young, it is performing so well, with a nice coffee bean and cream sweetness. Can't wait to try one with a little more age.
Dozerhead Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I really enjoy the Epi 2 but the Petite Robusto has always been one of my favorites. I tend to get more flavors out of the PR from my personal experience and I guess the size is more condusive to the amount of time I devote to a cigar on a regular basis. I also have found the PR to have a more effortless draw which I also like. Like everything else involving personal taste, it's all subjective.
Charltonc Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 They are two different beasts. I think they both having been smoking well young, but I prefer the petit robusto.
jrb5783 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I like the PR over the epicure 2. granted I've only had 2 epicure 2s. My personal favorite out of the epicure line is the recent production epi 1s they have been fantastic.
SMQQKIN Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Both very good. However, I prefer the petit robusto over the Epi 2 as well. For some reason it often is my 1 more cigar before I go to bed last smoke of the night and it never disappoints.
CaptainQuintero Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 The blend for the pr is just fantastic, a real stunner and actually fair priced. The epi2 from my experience has a bite more bite to it.
Dbone Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Man I love my Epi 2's, big time. This discussion has put the PR on my radar, however.
stargazer14 Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Wow. this is interesting. I keep reading how the Epi2 is doing so hot these days, and here 6 out of 7 say go for the PR. I have had many of both (in fact I think the PR was one of my first cubans many years ago) but have not had any in a while. Maybe I should dig one of each out of the aging box today.
spirit Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I think they are both cracking smokes. Ive smoked more Epi2's than PR's but enjoy them both. Interestingly I've never seen a PSP or HQ box of PR's crop up via LITH...

Interestingly I've never seen a PSP or HQ box of PR's crop up via LITH... That's funny. I was thinking the same thing when I read this thread earlier today.
seanbeer Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 i am thinking waht a box of PSP PR will be like too. May be I ahve got a box at home right now, thsi box that I bought from FOH through normal order last year. its rahter dark and full of wonderful taste. here's one i smoked last week.
jedipastor Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 to me the petite robusto is stronger all around, with a slightly darker profile. both are delicious, just depends on your mood. a pr would be better if your palate wasn't as clean, though.
CaptainQuintero Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 QC seems to be very good on these at least from what I have seen, I think you are as safe as guaranteed a good experience from these as you can be with a cigar.
jrb5783 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Smoking a PR right now, very good, consistent smoke never disappoints
El Presidente Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Both have been crackers over the past year. We see more HDM epi 2 than HDM PR (demand would be 20:1) and those that adore HDM PR have contacted me to be put on the "search list" for PSP. Hence they don't often make it to the LFTH or LFTW.
beamer Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 Appreciate all the responses! Also surprised by the overwhelming love for the PR; I expected a more even score! I agree, both very good cigars. I ought to revisit the PR before I commit to a box I suppose.
pjansen Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I was able to sample a PR from 06 and loved it so I sourced a box of PR from Summer 12 and they are great. I have never had an epi 2 so I need to try some out. Love the PRs though. Great winter cigar.

Good to see you enjoying them, Sean. The PR's certainly get plenty of love over on the UK cigar forum! Both have been crackers over the past year. We see more HDM epi 2 than HDM PR (demand would be 20:1) and those that adore HDM PR have contacted me to be put on the "search list" for PSP. Hence they don't often make it to the LFTH or LFTW. That's a list I might need to add my name to!
seanbeer Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 That's a list I might need to add my name to! you just reminded me that I haven't been logging in to UKCF for a while, its rather quiet over there.....miss the STICK A STICK IN
victorgkw Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 outright win for the PR in my opinion. The epi 2s just don't do it for me no matter how many times I try!
