dangolf18 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I'm starting to dig into an '08 box of Cohiba Robusto (LSO JUN 08) and they are great cigars, but still seem very young. I've heard 5 years is optimal, but what are your guys' thoughts?
maverickdrinker Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 5 years is what most say. I would say try to see if you like them and then let your palate be your guide. part of the fun
BrotherBear Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I am the wrong guy to ask when it comes to ageing... I like my coros very fresh. In my opinion fresh is where it's at with most cigars but that's a convo for an other thread. As mavericdrinker said, try now and see how the rank on your scale. If they taste great, smoke 'em all right away
maverickdrinker Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 aged for you is 3 months and vintage is 6 months right Marc?
BrotherBear Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 aged for you is 3 months and vintage is 6 months right Marc? pretty much! LOL Hard to age when I keep burning 4 boxes a month!
Tino Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Hopefully the winner of the NYE aged CoRo prize can tell you
dangolf18 Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 Well just finishing my first one as I'm writing this. I'd give it a 94 plus. Perhaps young was not the right word...it just seems stronger and richer that CoRos I've had in the past (always bought them as singles at BM's in Europe so I never knew how much age they had). With 10 years of age, I think this will be easily a 95-96 pointer. I'm going to try to make this box last as I paid a pretty penny to get an EMS box. Oh and I just got these in yesterday, so perhaps after a month of resting they'll show even better.
CaptainQuintero Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 4-5 years is what I like, I'm not a huge fan of the herbal nature of Cohiba when fresh, age pushes that more into the background and brings the cream and softness to the forefront. Just my view on them though
bobmirko Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I like my coros very fresh. I agree totally with this. For me 1 year is enought. Also, try to play with the RH of your CoRo it change the taste a lot for me.
Lotusguy Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I like them with 5 years or more. My 2008s are finally ready
AlohaStyle Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I definitely prefer 4+ years, try not to "waste" any younger ones. I am loving my box of 08's right now but also think that was a good year for Cohiba.
dangolf18 Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 I opted for the '08 box over a '07 box because I had heard '08 was a good year as well. My first box of cubans was a box of Siglo I from '08 (MEL OCT 08). That was back in 2010 and I smoked them all within a month.
partifan Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 2010 and 11 smoked beautifully fresh, better than the 08's I had last year.
mk05 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 All I've learned is Espi with 7. Other than that, I'll stay with 10+ yrs.
nikesupremedunk Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 still need to buy a box of these...but darn it i doubt they'll ever reach 5 years!
sharks Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Have just cracked a 04 box which was bought through Rob. I must say I am finding them exceptional. Have also tried the younger ones and they never seem to let me down. I must admit when I have them sitting in my humidor they dont seem to last to long. Also have a 08 stored in my OLH, will give that one a few more years aswell.
La Suerte Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Currently smoking POS JUN06...very nice indeed....
Jnaube Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 pretty much! LOL Hard to age when I keep burning 4 boxes a month! !!! Wow, would love to have your budget! How do you maintain your inventory???
