El Presidente Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Mexico City airport and Rob Cappuccio and myself met up with Nate in the Aeromexico ticket counter. I had already lost my passport briefly that morning in the airport but recovered it miraculously I had 4 lads staying with me in Havana, Rob C, Nate, Rob Schildt (Freefallguy), Garry Farr. Rob S and Garry were coming in from Costa Rica where they had spent a week fishing and we were to meet them at the Jose Marti Airport. All in all, we were to arrive at Jose Marti within 30 minutes of each other. none of our phones work in Cuba, none of the lads had been to cuba before. One late/missed flight, and the plan would have gone to crap. Thankfully, we had set up VIP clearance at Jose Marti and were to be taken to the lounge. And so it was in the lounge that I fired up my first cigar of the trip, a Mag 46 as I waited for my fellow travellers to arrive....and they did one by one. I love it when a plan comes together From the VIP lounge it was simply a matter of a maxi cab and a 20 minute ride to the house to Miramar. i have never stayed in this house before but it was arranged by good mate Toby so I wasn't concerned. As we drove up Avenida 3 Calle "B", there were a few murmurs from the Cab as the fellow travellers searched for No 37. It wasn't looking good.....I said "the other side of the road gents" and then the palace came into view Now, there are perhaps better houses in Havana...i just haven't seen them! We were welcomed by Toby and Esta who gave us a little tour. 5 Double bedrooms with Ensuites, large marble living areas, a magnificent patio, inground pool, garden, water views, Havana views, pool table and party area, great music system, fridge full of beer and rum, 50 custom cigars waiting our arrival. We settled in nicely over a few beers and some customs and I relaxed after the 34hr travel Marathon. Arriving in Cuba always feels like coming home to me. While sitting on the patio having a laugh with the lads I heard the familiar voice of my hermano Jose Candia. Hugs, introductions, more laughter. Toby and Garry heaaded off to buy some wine for the next few days, Nate was downstairs working out the boom box and the tunes came forward. There in this beautifu setting it was apt that in the background played the ACDC classic "Highway to Hell" Off to dinner at the local Paladar "Rio Mar" which we frequented many times during the week. Excellent food on the water with a nice wine list. They do a hell of a Pulpo. Nino joined us as did the beautiful Ingrid (Jose's wife). It is always great to catch up with Nino who's passion and easy charm is shared in spades. A great night of Friendship, fraternity and laughter. It was a long day and tomorrow was going to be a cracker. nearing midnight we decided on an early one. At 3am we left the lights of the city from our patio and headed for bed. It was going to be a great week. El Pres. Fellow travellers, post here any photo's you have of our house in Havana
