btrout Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I opened a nearly empty box of Monte #2's that had 4 remaining cigars in it. To my wonder all 4 cigars had this fluffy white stuff on them only on the heads above the band. It brushes off fairly easily and I'm leaning towards it being plume, but I'd like another opinion. What do you think? Thanks for your help. Bob
CaptainQuintero Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 It's mould but it's the harmless white stuff that is ok as long as it's not got into the stick. Just brush it off and smoke them sooner rather than later : )
Rushman Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Mold, brush off, smoke, repeat --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631749,-87.070670
Jszeto Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I hope I'm not the only one but I see this frequently on Monte 2's where the head gets moldy.
nikesupremedunk Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 My first box was a 6 month old Monte 2 and it had very slight mold on foot. I had to slice off maybe 1/8th inch of the foot and it was fine but on the head it's no problem at all. Like others said, brush it off and smoke it. I also agree, I see this a lot with monte 2's for some reason...
Blakes Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Yup, i had a box of montes where there was mold on the head of a few. Didn't affect the cigars though imo.
btrout Posted October 23, 2012 Author Posted October 23, 2012 Dang! Well, that is a disappointment. But I'm taking your advice and smoking one now. Thanks guys. Bob

btrout Posted October 23, 2012 Author Posted October 23, 2012 The good kind of mold on the good end of the cigar That begs the question, what is the bad kind of mold?
CaptainQuintero Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 That begs the question, what is the bad kind of mold? blue, green, yellow any colour other than white. Also if it is not just won the wrapper which can be brushed off, but throughout the inside of the cigar.
braveheart655 Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Not as much as those but I had that white mold on the caps of couple of Siglo III and CoRo's. I don't know if it makes any difference but all of them were in original cardboard packs.

Cheers.
jazzbass Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I've read somewhere that if you brush it off and no mark is left on the wrapper then you had plume.. If the wrapper is stained then its mould.... Does this sound right?
Smallclub Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I've read somewhere that if you brush it off and no mark is left on the wrapper then you had plume.. If the wrapper is stained then its mould.... Does this sound right? No. Doesn't make sense.

dangolf18 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Definitely mold. Plume is a fine powder. Mold has "hairs" so to speak.
CaptainQuintero Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Plume is fluorescent under a blacklight too, mould isn't.
