Hi, folks.

In about 7 weeks I hit the ol' four-zero. I'd like to celebrate this milestone with an extra special cigar. I suppose a box of something with an Octoer 1972 box code would be pretty hard to find (and probably ridiculously expensive if found), so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for an extra special 40th birthday cigar. I really like the BHKs, so I may just get a box of the 56. But I have a box of the 54 and 1966 at the moment, so the 56 doesn't seem like it's any more special than what I already have.

Or maybe I'm going about it wrong... maybe I should look for a 40 year old bottle scotch and smoke whatver I already have. Hmm... this just got interesting.

Your thoughts and suggestions will be appreciated!

Cheers,

~ Greg ~

Montecristo A for these special occasions as far as I'm concerned.

Cohiba gran reserva!

Your only 40 once mate.

Hmm. That looks interesting. The Siglo VI is one of my favorite sticks (especially when you can get some of the PSP variety), but after a quick search on the interwebz machine I quickly discovered that these suckers are hard to come by and ridiculously expensive when you do. But, still... you are correct. I will only turn 40 once. I've only got 7 weeks, so if I can't find some fairly quickly I may have to go to plan B. (The 40 yeard old scotch.) Or, hell, I may just do plan B as well. :)

Who cares what you smoke. Surround yourself with friends and family and people you enjoy spending time with and you could smoke a rolled up 7urd and enjoy it. Of course, a 40yr old Single Malt is pretty awesome...

edit: the word t.u.r.d is a no-no? Really? LOL

Just a suggestion, in regards to the BHK's. I have boxes of the 54 and 56 (and have smoked the 52 as well). The 56's are a mammoth cigar and I find the size and ring gauge to be too big for my preference. I would go with the 54's over the 56's IMHO.

I second a Montecristo A. Find one in a coffin. Once you've smoked it, put the band in the coffin along with any other artifacts from your 40th. Heck, write yourself a letter and roll it up in there too. Put in the wine cork from the bottle you celebrated with..or beer caps...etc.

If you look around you might be able to find something with enough age to come close to 40 years old. Otherwise, find yourself a nice pimping cigar. A Monte A fits that bill. :ok:

Most epic birthday ever...

Ps. Im sure you can still buy the 2 stick boxes of CGR, will save you buying a 10 box and you can keep the other one for your 50th birthday.

You should check out rob and smithys review, im sure that will make your decision much easier

Be sure to post pics mate.

For my birthday, or some very special occasion that I want to celebrate by myself, I smoke the first cigar I've ever smoked that got me into this mess.

If you love the Behike 54 go with it. As far as 40 year old Scotch might I recommend the 40 year old Glenfarclas...a little taste of heaven.

If you plan to get drunk on your birthday I wouldn't waste a Super Premium stick. It's logical, why would you smoke a BHK 54 or CGR if you are already drunk and won't appreciate the cigar properly? If you don't plan on getting sloshed go for whatever excites you the most. We're all lucky no matter what being able to smoke a fantastic cigar while celebrating our big days. Don't over think it :)

I found a bottle of Balvenie Vintage Cask 1972. Not really a 40 year old scotch - was bottled in 2006, I think it was - but it's about $2000 cheaper than the Balvenie's actual 40 year old scotch. But I'm sure it will be just fine... and having 1972 on the label is pretty neat. :)

Orion brings up a good point, though - why waste a really good cigar (or really good booze for that matter) on a night of drunken debauchery? I know there's going to be a get together, but I don't plan on getting hammered. (Famous last words, I'm sure.) But my intent is to enjoy both the scotch and whatever cigar (or cigars) I end up smoking.

Shlomo... Steve had me thinking about the CGRs, but I do like the idea of the Monte A. Pimpstick, eh? Indeed! :)

Cheers,

So G... when we drinking that scotch?

What? You don't think JT's has the good stuff? :D

As others have recommended I suggest a Monte A. I have one saved for my 21st birthday this November.

Smoke what is smoking good and you can't go wrong.

Exactly the advice I am going to give. You know best what's smoking good in your possession... go for whatever that is. The other day was my Bday and I had a Hoyo Epi 2, Siglo II, and BRC. Nothing fancy, but expectations were met :cigar: Happy early Bday, brother :peace:

Monte A is s great suggestion, but ask yourself "are they special enough" i mean they are widely available. A year and half ago i would have definatley said go for a behike, but they themselves have become widely available too.

Im sure Rob wouldnt mind helping you on trying to source a cigar from your birth year, he could point you in the right direction.

The biggest snag I ran into during my search for a stick from 1971 was that back in those days there were no date codes printed on the boxes so while you may get something from the early 70s, you won't know the exact year. I ended up buying some Punch Air France from the late 60s/early 70s but did not get them in time for my b'day.

I turned the big 40 in May :) and like you also wanted something special for the day. Although I eneded up with a great tasting cigar from my usual rotation.

Had a few cigars picked out leading up to the big day. My birthday was on a Sunday so I started on the Friday with a Partagas P1, Sat Behike 52.

The big day was a Cohiba Sublime from 2004 and a Cohiba Gran Reserva. On the Monday I finished up with a Cohiba Siglo VI which was in my current rotation at the time.

The best out of all of them was the Siglo VI. So I'd go with whats smoking good at the time in your humidor, you cant go wrong..
